I can wiggle the pickups - is that normal?

On my new (to me) Yamaha BB734A I can wiggle the pickups. They seem slightly loose.

The reason I’m asking is that I also have a Yamaha TRBX174 and the pickups are firmly mounted and don’t move at all.

It’s fine, those are just the plastic covers. It just means the springs/foam underneath isn’t super firm, and also maybe the pickups are a bit high.

I have a Sire P7. It has a J style and P (humbucker) style pick up. The J pick up does not move and as I understand the P style is on a spring and is meant to move a bit.

I have an LTD B-4, which is a typical modern-style dual humbucker bass, and when I got Thomann’s budget clone of a Sandberg California, I had the same reaction as you. While the humbucker in the bridge position was pretty firm, the split coil at the neck position felt weird and I felt like I was resting my thumb on a marshmallow. This is normal, but did take me a while to get used to. Also congrats on Yamaha BB, it’s a remarkable bass! Are you a fan of Vincen Garcia by chance?

I’ll do a search now - so I guess my answer is no?
