Following Josh’s advice from the video “Are you good enough to join a band?”, I joined a f***ing band
The opportunity basically slapped me in the face, as my pal was looking for a bassist for his band.
First rehearsal was so stressful, I was ready to leave after first half an hour. But I stayed, and that was one of the best decisions of my life.
I’m the least talented musician there, and for example I struggle with jamming. But once I learn a song, I’m solid. Even the drummer told me he loves to play with me. I even managed to come up with bass lines for our two new songs. And another one, based on my riffs is in the works.
Now, every rehersal is the highlight of the week and can’t imagine my life without it. We’re currently trying to get some gigs, but for a new band it’s not that easy.
Here are some links, if you’re interested. We wouldn’t mind a follow either The band is called Ashwing.
Coolio and bravo! I’m not a metal fan per se, but I really like your original songs. Following on SoundCloud. Is there any reason your website says Ashwing are from Glasgow, UK and not Glasgow, Scotland? Don’t want to limit your gigging opportunities? Best of luck!
Well Glasgow is in the UK and there is only one Glasgow so I’m pretty sure most people in the UK would know where Glasgow is. It’s a pretty small country!
The UK, i.e. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland consists of the nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland so don’t think it’s going to confuse anyone on this side of the pond.
Maybe an open mic will be a good way to start playing live? I’m new to a band and we’re doing an open mic on 18th Dec as a deadline, but there’s also less pressure as I’m new to playing in front of an audience. In my area it is usually the same musicians that go, so we’ e hoping to find other bands to organise a gig with:D I think venues will be more likely to say yes if the lineup is already planned.
