In memoriam

Awww fuck. L7 were underrated.

They were an awesome live band. I saw them in both runs (early career and after they got back together). The first time was in DC back in ‘95. That was the first time that I got to crowd surf. They grew up and their 2nd run was more… positive? It was a great set, very different from the snarl and aggression in earlier years but they still brought the thunder.

They became more radio friendly but not in a bad way. “Pretend We’re Dead” did pretty well.

Seen them play several shows.

He was good

A bit late but I think it fits here. Jeremy Dearduff passed on July 2 of this year. He wasn’t famous, but he played the upright bass with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra for 30 years. He was 54. We met in a local motorcycle group nearly 20 years ago but have shared some common friends for even longer.

“Big Pussy” Vincent Pastore passed away the other day, and yes, he was a musician - a singer. Saw him and his band just post Sopranos time in Westchester at a bar he had a standing gig at.

I’m sure he got to play with Silvio/Little Steven at some point.

From the Goog:

Pastore owned rock clubs in New Rochelle before his acting career, and Van Zandt produced Pastore’s satellite radio program The Wiseguy Show, but their creative collaborations remained in acting, radio, and theater rather than playing in a band together.

Please tell me he didn’t go on a boat ride

Nice obit for a nice guy.

In seeing coverage in the news on the funeral services for Vincent Pastore, I saw a flag draped coffin (having been in the Marines, I have a big issue with flags on caskets when the decedent did not serve.)
I did not know that Pastore was a Navyman…
RIP sailor, and may the seas in front of you be smooth sailing.
