Inexpensive fretless Bass

The time for that transition has long passed, it would be carnage!

Because it is a hard protective finish that is easy to apply and can be reapplied as needed due to wear. Not really necessary for flat wounds but round wounds will eventually wear grooves in a fretboard.

Be aware that CA glue fumes and dust are pretty nasty so take proper precautions (respirator/goggles/gloves) if you give it a go.

That’s a Pigasus Instruments neck for a 3-string bass… i.e. I made it myself.

That’s a sexy looking Ibanez btw!

So could I take my Squire Precision and swap the neck out with a Squire Jazz neck? Would that be hard/expensive and worth it?

I also heared that. But I discussed it on zzzeee Zzzeerman formum too, and one of the experts said this: “I’ve been playing fretless basses since the early 90s, always just rounds and not a single fretboard damaged in any way.
And I still play them all.
You should only grip as lightly as necessary to produce a clean tone. You should be able to grip notes without using your thumb as a support, so basically just with your fingertips. This pressure is completely sufficient and does not damage your fretboard”

So, I’m undecided

How did you apply the super glue on the fretboard? Doesn’t it harden quickly? Did you apply only one layer?

Yes, you can. I did the opposite for a few of my Fenders.

The Ibanez Affirma. I had this for a few years now.

Wow! You’ve got mad skills. Love that fingerboard pattern. What kind of wood is that?

Thanks @Al1885! That’s zebrawood, which can come from several different tree species, from various places throughout the world, but this particular piece is Zebrano (Microberlinia brazzavillensis) from Western Africa.

You forgot the “as”.
“… as needed due to wear.”
If you have a light grip and a hard fretboard, wear may never be an issue.

For application, check out the video @itsratso posted and more detailed videos can be found on youtube. It does dry pretty quickly but, when applied in quantity, you have plenty of time to cover the whole fretboard.
