Introduce Yourself! (2018-2022)

Hey Everyone,
My name is Kevin and I’m a crusty 49 year old. I started B2B a week ago and I just started Module 4. I picked a bass for the first time eight months ago and went through the Fender Play course (mostly because I bought a squire) and am happy to say that after a week I can confidently say this course is WAY better. I love the clear organization and progression. I’m cruisin so far but really suck at the advanced stuff so I’m looking forward to Josh’s instruction later in the course.
I’ve messed around with guitar for years and can play some basic riffs and the basic chord changes but it never really stuck. I’ve always loved bass and sort of on a whim bought a cheap setup and am so happy that I’m confident that I’m sticking with it. I’m really liking taking the time to focus on practicing timing and trying to understand the theory part which is something I’ve never done with guitar.
Anyway, really loving everything about this community I’ve seen so far. Thanks for the awesome course Josh!

Seriously thought man, I’m glad to hear someone else has a similar story with guitar. I love music so much and seeing shows has been such an important part of my life I never understood why I wasn’t playing music. I think I just need to start rockin the low end…

But only if they can cover frets 1-4 with all 4 fingers Brian.

Actually, it is quite common here.

Yeah, that is the single thing I miss most in days of Covid-19. So many shows cancelled, postponed, re-scheduled, cancelled, postponed…

I even just started taking my 8 year old to shows before the covid.

Your fingers will be monsters after 10 more years of playing!

My story was, I had not played guitar for about 20 years, and decided to pick up playing again, but instead of getting a guitar, I got a bass, because I really wanted to play bass more, back when I started guitar, but my best friend already took up bass, and not too many bands (Ministry maybe) have multiple bass players.

I take mine to some, but they are a bit older. usually my 16 and 18 year old go, sometimes the 21 year old.

Love Ministry. There’s also a band called Cop Shoot Cop who has 2 bassists. They only have 2 basses though and might be better if they had a guitar.

I am about a 1/3rd of the way thru the Bass lessons and loving it! I’ve been playing the drums for several years…now it’s time to learn to read music and (scales) develop a bit of ear training. So since drums and bass make up the rhythm section and feed of each other… I figured learning the Bass was a logical instrument. I have spent the last year learning & playing drum shuffles / grooves for the Blues…while playing the drums and following the walking basses it was like a siren song…i became spell bound. and in need of a BassBuzz. I couldn’t wait after lesson 4… I spent 2 days practicing the C Blues Box…actually got to 85 BPM! Your good humor does make this fun Josh Thanks

PS if drummers drum…do Bassist Bass?
