@gregtrahan My cousin was a tugboat Captain in South Luisiana for 25 years before he retired. He last worked out of Fourchon. (I think that’s how it’s spelled.)

My brother used to fly a helicopter out of there, going back and forth to the oil rigs.

You’ve chosen well. The lessons here are very good. Plus those of us past 40 sometimes need a little extra practice. Now let’s go break some stuff!

Welcome @gregtrahan . I did the course on an Ibanez GSR200. Don’t have it anymore, but it certainly is sufficient to get thru the course, and even to play for a long while, if you are the kind of person that can resist temptation, then it will last you a good long while. Unless you want more basses ( like I do) you can get pedals to make that bass almost anything you want (pedals are a dive down a habit hole I am in as well).

My current roommate is a fishing boat captain, from Alaska, but he fishes Salmon during the summer season, and comes down to visit in Southern California during the winter time. I could only do that job with the right drugs, or I would have anxiety 24/7. I imagine the river might be a little tamer then say the Arctic Ocean, but I am sure you get your rough times as well, it would be more then I could handle.

Hi, got my new bass today. Haven’t played in 50 years. Signed up for your course. I am having trouble using all 4 finger to fret, have a bit of arthritis going on. Any suggestions as to work around that problem? Really want to play again. US Army vet, live on Long Island, NY, old guy trying to just have some fun playing bass again.

For inspiration on how to overcome hand disabilities, look at Django Rheinhardt and how his fretting hand fused after being severely burned in a fire when he was a young man. You can do it!!

Welcome @ednolanus

Take it slow, microshift and you’ll adapt. Two years in nearly and I still don’t always play one finger per fret

Hello to Josh and all of my fellow students! I am a beginner and just bought a used bass that is being delivered, so I’ve yet to receive it but am super excited to get it and an amp ASAP. I couldn’t wait to start watching the videos / lessons so I signed up right away. I found Josh and these lessons via YouTube and have watched a whole bunch of his YouTube vids. I played guitar and trumpet for a brief time as a kid but that was a loooong time ago. I’ve always wanted to play drums and bass. I’ve been trying to teach myself piano the past couple of years and decided to jump into bass as well because of Josh’s wonderful classes offered here. Once I receive my bass this Friday I’ll share a pic of myself with it but I’ll share with you what I’m getting on Friday with a photo right now that I have from the seller. It is Fender 50s Vintera P bass with a Fender “roasted” Jazz neck and a couple of other small mods. I still need an amp.

To everyone here - enjoy and glad to be in the mix with all of you!

Adam
