Enjoy your journey
Hi people, I guess it’s time to introduce myself as well. I’m 31 years old, from near Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
I’ve always had an interest in bass. Not just the guitar, but the sound I guess? Bass is one of the main sounds which makes music sound good to me. I can listen to any genre, be it hardstyle, metal or just trap. As long as bass is present, I enjoy the music.
In my teens me and my friends were into rapping and we had a group and even performed once. To be honest, it’s all a bit cringy but aren’t we all in our teens? I learned to play the piano and stuck with that for a long time until i gotten older and started to lose interest in both making music and the piano.
Getting into my twenties I started liking the guitar and always wanted to learn to play, but always told myself that I lacked the time. Then the pandemic hit and we all basically got stuck at home. Unfortunately due to the pandemic and some personal issues I had a burn-out and I was truly stuck at home since I had major anxiety issues. Seeing as I needed to get my mind off the issues I was having, my therapist suggested I pick up some creative hobby’s. My first idea was to get an electric guitar and as it happened a friend of mine had a few lying around he wanted to get rid off. When I told him I wouldn’t mind lending one just to see if I liked it, he recommended me his bass, saying it would probably fit me better. Guess he knew as well. That was around the beginning of 2021. He gave me a, lets call it, worn Hyundai (?) bass that had some sound issues. Even though the guitar had its issues, I was still having allot of fun so I wanted to buy my own. After some research, I went to a local music store and came back with a Ibanez Ibanez SR300.
Youtube and the rest of the internet is full of tutorials, but that just didn’t work for me cause i wanted some sort of soft schedule. I found a few classes on Udemy which also just didn’t hit the spot, and then I found Josh’s vids on Youtube. I really liked his personality and the way he teaches so I went ahead and bought B2B. I have to say, honestly, it’s been one of the best purchases ever.
I’ve been following the lessons on and off, here and there. Sometimes I have weeks where I’ll rather play songs or just jam around and then I’m back on the lessons again. This is the type of flexibility I needed. So I can thank Josh enough. Right now I’m at module 13, but can’t seem to get the hang of slapping. In order not to get demotivated I’ll go back to playing songs or jamming around.
Anyway, here’s the first and last video I made of me playing the bass.
