Hello: New Year, New Skillz! My name is Yvonne. I Have children who know how to play instruments. I grew up in the South Bronx in the 70’s and never learned how to play anything. So, last year I purchased an Acoustic Guitar and a Precision Bass and a few accessories. I am determined to learn how to Master this Bass thing this year! I want to learn how to play a few specific songs masterfully. The first is “Risin To The Top” by Keni Burke. Another is “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. And “I Like It” by B.T Express. (Yes, I like Old Skool Stuff) There are a few more, I would like to add to my repertoire, but that will come later as I improve. Nice to meet everybody. I grew up in Harlem NYC and the South Bronx, so I’m a Loca New Yorker….

Hello BassBuzz community,
I’m Alex. I got my 2nd bass for my 40th birthday in December. I had my first bass when I was in middle school. Took it to a lesson. Strummed it instead of plucked it. Was embarrassed in front of the instructor and promptly stopped trying to learn. I regretted that ever since.
Ready to restart the journey decades later. Currently getting owned by Billie Jean in B2B but I am heeded the advice to continue forward and not let it deter me.
Looking forward to learning more from the community. ![]()
Welcome
Great story. Billie Jean is indeed a wicked mistress, and a cramp inducing monster, but keep going back to it. You’ll get it! When I recorded it for my YouTube channel, I lost count on how many times I messed up before finally nailing it haha
Glad to have you with us!
Welcome @Colt1545 @Spinay and @planetarymonkey - enjoy!
Hi and welcome along @planetarymonkey ! (love your handle by the way!)
Welcome and wishes of good health!
Hello everyone. Happy New Year!
My children got me a bass last year for Christmas. Since then I have been noodling around watching YouTube videos and making little to no progress. Partly because I spent way too much time watching tutorial videos than practicing. I got tired of watching this person say use this method, but the next person would say this method is one to use.
I have always enjoyed Josh’s videos and decided to take the plunge. I am currently working though Module 2 and enjoying myself.
Welcome @dave216 and enjoy!

Hello to @beethoven62 @RXManPaul @Colt1545 @Spinay @planetarymonkey and @dave216!! Welcome to the forum!
Hey everyone. Another Alex here.
I’ve been noodling on guitar a while, but it never took because it felt a bit too small for my hands and fingers. I played tuba as a kid and got a little music theory in, then got into some classic funk and decided to give bass a try for 2026. Researched a couple months, and now I’m here with a mist green Yamaha TRBX304 that’s feeling great in my hands through the first four lessons. Turns out my ears are still pretty tuned for the bass region from tuba, and I have that I have a good feeling about this vibe going on with it.
I look forward to keeping on this course and learning from you all along the way.
