Is Florida safe to travel to?

I wouldn’t trust her around a slice of beefcake like that

If she’s looking at architecture, she’s gotta stop by the Coral Castle. It’s basically the US equivalent to Stonehenge. To this day they’ve never been able to figure out how one sickly dude with TB was able to single-handedly build this thing.

Also, the South Beach area is an art deco dream come true.

Yay! One of my, ehm, “favourite” movies was made there: Nude on the Moon!

I hope, the picture is blurry enough

Florida is pretty safe as long as you keep out of bad neighborhoods. I work on medical equipment between Jacksonville and Miami and up into Orlando and Ocala. I don’t get much into downtown Miami much any more. Will she be with other work people? when is she down here?

Hey Ed

I live in south Florida, and if your wife is going to the typical tourist areas in Miami (South Beach, Art Deco District, Wynwood) and not wandering around aimlessly, she shouldn’t have any problems. Especially if she is checking things out during the day. Avoid Overtown, Little Haiti, Liberty City (not sure what would bring her to those areas anyway). Not too familiar with Jacksonville.

Crispy I have to agree with you on all points…I live in north central Florida and have been to most of the state. Driving gets long, stressful, and dangerous…St Augustine is an excellent choice, as it is so charming and Bohemian with plenty to do there!

Thanks for all the help @mr.crispy @MikeC @Tommydogg @JohnF @Bella ! My wife’s booked her itinerary, and basically she’s going to be in Miami, Jacksonville and St Augustine for a few days…. She was thinking of visiting Tampa but it’s basically too much of a stretch.

I’m still worried about alligators but hey aren’t we all  ?

Unless she is near the water alligators are not a problem. If she goes to the bar she needs to watch out for Land Sharks. “Fins to the left and fins to the right”.

When you see me outside recording a bass cover in front of a lake, you’ll probably see me glance at the water now and then to make sure nothing is creeping up on me. If I stop posting covers, you’ll know why…:crocodile:

Sometimes, there’s a lot of truth in fiction. I love the books by two former newspaper journalists, Tom Dorsey (Tampa) and Carl Hiaasen (Miami). Tom created one of my favorite fictional characters, Serge A. Storms (I love that name), and Carl didn’t do too bad himself with Skink, a former governor of Florida. For those unfamiliar with either or both, I suggest reading their books in chronological order, especially Tom’s.

Tom Dorsey’s Serge Storms books

Carl Hiaasen’s books marked “Novels”

Love the Serge and Coleman books.

Classic duo, brilliant lunatic with a doper/slacker sidekick. I als loved all of the Florida trivia that Dorsey included.

Damn. I gave away all of my Dorsey hardcovers when I moved to France. Now, I feel the urge to read them all again. I don’t like reading from paperbacks, but I may have no choice.

Why wouldn’t it be safe to travel too? It’s one of the most travelled states in the Country. Get outside and touch grass buddy :slightly_smiling_face:

It is a pretty great name! It evokes a storm that suddenly doubles in size and destructive force for me.

It’s a clever reversal of “storm surge”. You’re correct in what it evokes for you. Here’s a good explanation of what exactly it is.

Oh that has to be the cringiest two-word phrase that has come up in recent times.

Apart from ‘Danny Sapko’

If there’s a top three, “touch grass" is definitely in there
