Jazz bass for under 1K

I am actually low key kicking myself for not buying a Mighty Power. Had I known they were going to discontinue them I would have.

You’d have to try a v2 Sire to feel and compare the difference to know, one way or the other.

Same goes for me with an FGN. I almost bought that Fujien-made Fender a couple of years ago, but I just couldn’t go with any Fender. Something about the cut of Fender’s jib just doesn’t work for me. I’m happy for others who like them, though.

I highly recommand Sire Marcus Miller too (owner of a sire marcus miller V5R ALDER-4 NT RN), because “They punch WAAAAAAY above their weight”, indeed.
Keep in mind that most of them can be a bit big and heavy (I’m a small guy, so this has an effect).
I would love to recommand Bacchus too but it’s only inexpensive … if you live in Japan ^^'. Still worth a look at Reverb.
In Japan, something like a Bacchus WL4-STD 33 RSM/M CHG cost around 320€.
In France, it’s 3 times this price.

Well that’s for sure, I’d probably pick the Mij Marcus Miller myself too.

Early Fender MIJ mid 80’s are arguably finest quality Fender of the era, the USA made one could not compare. US luthiers were quite behind in quality especially the vintage reproductions.

Why not a Reverend Triad? @faydout has one and I have the feeling he can say many good things about it…

I know, I’m just watching the show. Might have to revisit the Japanese sites

The Japanese FGN site has indicated that the “Mighty” will return. They put a teaser out a few months and presently have it listed (not on the U.S. site).

As you know, I would be a Sire owner except for having a previously used V8 delivered by Sweetwater. I decided on another incoming option, but a V8 is only the “extra money” away.

There’s a lot to be said for the Fender MIJ MM Signature. Marcus played his for years.

I was this close to buying one a couple of years ago: had one in my sights. But the weight of it killed the deal for me. It was as heavy as the other 70s Jazz I used to own (11 pounds).

I’m glad I held out and Marcus teamed up with Sire to design his modern V8 Signature version. Much lighter, amazing materials and electronics, much easier to play. And a lot less moolah.

I want to be clear I am not saying Sire is a bad instrument - I have one and it’s great. I had a V7 but it was a V1 and I understand V2s are much improved - and I respect @Al1885 and @MikeC and trust them when they say so.

I am saying that I have owned 3 Fujigens, a Mighty Power, a Jazz, and a Telecaster (guitar, have mercy on my oh bass gods), and they punch above their weight too and I think they are better made than the Sires I have owned. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with Sire. They are excellent.

But the exchange rate is fluid, and the BOJ is making moves, and is not as favorable as when I purchased. My FGN Jazz, which is like an American Performer, was $400 USD. 90-95% of the basses I see in Japan are Jazz. They love their Jazz.

It’s all good. Nothing at all against FGN or any other MIJ basses. I’m sure they’re excellent instruments.

Bottom line, no one can go wrong with the great majority of basses being produced these days from Japan, Korea and Indonesia — which covers a whole lot of some of the very best out there.

Regardless of anyone’s weapon of choice, we’re all very fortunate. :+1:

We are in a golden age for basses. There’s so many fine options it can be daunting when it’s a new player. So many options and none wrong just different degrees of good

Oh cool, it is back. Looks like just the white one? These are tempting

It’s not nearly that many but it is the majority, yeah. Probably 70%, very highly represented.

Are the fgns nicer than the bacchus?

Than the normal Bacchus Woodlines (and other production models)? The production Fujigens are close, probably about the same.

Than the Sakura customs? No way

Yeah I think that’s a great thing to have a different point of view @Wombat-metal as I’m now started looking into the FGN and especially the Sakura. My Japanese basses model is only limited to a few models and brands.

One of the biggest issue with Sire is, everyone and anyone who knows Sire would know that they are best bang for the bucks. It could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Another issue for me personally is that I want some of the electronics wizardry on the P bass but all P bass are passive and the active ones are PJs and the are at the narrower at 38mm at the nut.

Ibanez EHB 1500

It has the Nordy Bing Breaks which are split coils, and a 41mm nut, and the whole EHB thing. The neck is a bit more P like in heft, but still comfy. A thought. Kind of like a double P

Or just through an Audere into your P

Or get one of those Delano Quads and make it a P

Not sure what this means. How could it be a bad thing, @Al1885?
