Laptops

For that, you’d need a thunderbolt connection (same connector as usb3). Thunderbolt 3 or 4 specifically.

Yeah the later USB3 revs actually can do 4k but I would go for something more dedicated at that point.

I agree completely! I’m not a big fan of apple, i “hate” MacOS and iOS… but when i needed a small laptop with good speed and battery life, I had to choose a Macbook Air M1 because it was about twice the price for an equivalent windows machine with much worse battery life.

I never would have considered a mac but a work buddy got a refurbished one for music stuff and loves it! It’s incredibly good if you do any photo/video processing too.

My original plan was to trade the mac air to my daughter after summer and get my Dell G5 back… it’s been 4 years and I don’t think i’m getting it back

I have an Asus Zenbook 13 for my park playing (and working on vacations). Very thin, good performance, lots of memory and a large new SSD built-in.
Unfortunately I need an extra large/heavy external battery to keep going whole day … and the Zenbook gets very hot outside, it worries me. The screen is very good in terms of quality (OLED), but not bright enough to use in the sun.

For the same price I could and should have gotten an M1 laptop. It would have EVERYTHING I need (except a large SSD).

I understand if somebody has price restrictions, very well in fact, as I also cannot spend a lot $$$ currently. But some things are an investment in your future - where you should try not to compromise…

I still use a 2013 17in alienware laptop with a 32in monitor for most stuff. It was expensive when i bought it but it’s definitely been worth it. It weighs about as much as a Les Paul and had about an hour of battery life when it was new

Hahaha!
Yeah, that would be like my go to laptop: an Asus ROG Zephyrus S17.
17" screen, lots of RAM, 8TByte SSD, heavy (but relatively thin) and a very fast NVIDIA GPU. It’s expensive, of course.
On battery & turbo mode I can switch the laptop on and then it switches off almost immediately, cause: battery empty
It’s a great laptop - for audio, gaming, video, graphic design and development. But I would never use it without power supply - so no park playing or using in a plane…

My three years of tilting at the windmill of trying to make linux gaming not be super shitty (I failed) were on an Alienware 17” as well.

It’s not that Linux is bad. It’s just that Linux discussions online are always bad.

How can they be bad if Internet runs on Linux!
