Appreciate the encouragement. I’m thinking my next piece of gear will be a DI so I can record some covers to put on YouTube and then I can send the links out to see if I get any bites.

I record all my covers on an iPhone (GarageBand) and use either a Focusrite Scarlett Solo or my multi-effects pedal as an interface - ie the bass is plugged into the interface, and the interface is plugged into the iPhone. Once you get the hang of it, the process is pretty simple.

I think you need DAI to record. DI is more useful for live musicians
