Oh wait, forgot - Apple added pitch correction in 11 so you can skip buying Melodyne there.
On Digital Performer… Motu interfaces now bring Performer Lite
They even give some lessons and I think they have a recurring session for it.
Seems interesting enough to try
If you’ve got an iPad, you can throw down $5 for a month of Logic and test the stem separation side by side against Moises to see which you prefer. I haven’t tested it with FLAC files but I usually use uncompressed &.AIFF’s.
Yeah … still in the process of thinking which kidney to sell and if I’ll get a MacBook Air or an iPad…
EDIT Maybe I’ll try to install one of my PCs as a Hackintosh?
If you don’t really need a laptop to do all of the laptop stuff (multi monitors, shell access etc), a 13" iPad pro would meet most of your general purpose needs. If it handled 2 monitors I’d probably use mine for doing music on over my Macbook tbh. I’ve got it set up in a nice case with a detachable keyboard and in practice, it’s a laptop. Oh, and editing music / movies is quite a bit nicer with the pencil. Would also let you play around with whatever Apple Intelligence is going to be on an M4 chip.
I love my iPad and yet I can’t imagine nonlinear editing on a tablet being anything but constant frustration for me. YMMV.
Having done this, this is a terrible idea.
And it won’t work anyway as the current version of Logic won’t install on the latest OS version you can hackintosh, and you need the latest version of Logic for the stem separation.
Yeah I’d definitely try the free version of DP before plopping down cash for Logic. They also offer a discounted upgrade price from that, I think.
DP has existed for longer than Logic too so I wouldn’t worry if it is something they will continue to support; they’ve been shipping it since around 1986.
Logic has fixed the Audio Unit plugin resizing bug, finally
New version is nice, having some fun with it.
Ah, this is the thread I should have used for a little “warning” re: the recent Logic update to 11.2: if you are heavily relying on hardware control surfaces, you might want to hold off on updating, as there is a bug affecting the communication between Logic and the controller(s). Hopefully, this will be fixed in the next (minor) update.
Luckily, I had the older version (11.1.2) still on another computer…
Other than that, 11.2 has some nice new features/improvements!
Is the bug specific to MPE or all external MIDI controllers? If just MPE then no big deal for me.
I have a problem using the Nektor Panorama CS12, but also heard issues with the NI Komplete Kontrol. There is not a lot to be found about this “bug” on the interwebs, but my controller become unresponsive after a short while and even resetting it didn’t help much.
No issue with the prior Logic version (11.1.2).
Wild. Thanks for the warning.
Here is what I got from Nektar on this (the second part is less relevant):
Thanks for contacting Nektar tech support. I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble using your Panorama CS12 after the latest Logic update.
We are aware of an issue which can occur with some control surfaces with Logic 11.2. We are seeing two specific issues:
Controls transmit data but don’t control their assigned parameters (parameter feedback to the controller still works). Display still updated when navigating to different pages, insert slots.
After making custom assignments through on the User 1 and User 2 pages, using Logic’s MIDI Learn function, CS12 loses communication, becomes unresponsive.
We have reported these issues to Apple and from what I understand, they have also gotten reports from other brands. I have seen the first issue occur with Native Instruments Kontrol S61. Hopefully those issues will be addressed in the next Logic update.
We have also gotten reports of the CS12 returning to the startup screen (with the CS12 logo) when using the CS12 with Logic. So far we have not been able to reproduce that problem ourselves but some of the customers who have reported that say that clearing out the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file fixes the problem. Note, that doing so will
cause Logic to forget control assignments made with Logic’s MIDI learn function (this doesn’t affect our plug-ins maps).
