Melody over - problem

greetings to everyone, I started studying in the late forties - so far I have fulfilled a lot of my original expectations (I play about 20 favorite songs and the adrenaline rushes :joy:). I have the following problem with certain favorite songs (example: Lust for life by Iggy Pop) - I keep the rhythm until the moment when the vocals start, and then my brain switches to the melody and I lose the rhythm. Similarly with Waiting room by Fugazi. Any quick tips, techniques…?

I have had this problem a few times as well like with Hysteria by Muse… as soon as the singing started … trainwreck… what helped me was to try to mentally LOCK IN on the drums… ( or whatever was providing the beat ) … IGNORE the vocals… after a while it worked… then I could play … and enjoy it :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope this helps  … Also, Welcome to the forums

Another option would be to split your track with a tool like Moises … you would be able to turn the Vox channel down … and slowly raise the volume of the vocals as you progress untill you have it nailed with max vocals

Just another thought

If you are still new-ish to bass then your brain will remap. I only hear rhythm section most of the time. I only know half the lyric of the songs I like, mainly because my brain doesn’t track the lyric only rhythm section.

The melody is just serves as a trigger point for fills and transition. It’s something naturally gave up when listening to a song. When I to my Audiophile listening session I just turn off my musician brain as much and as long as I could :joy:
