Monitors!

LINE OUTPUTS: LEFT and RIGHT – 2 x ¼” (6.35 mm) TRS jack sockets; +10 dBu output level
(variable), electronically balanced. Either ¼” TRS (balanced connection) or TS (unbalanced
connection) jack plugs can be used

cool, so a balanced Line Out cable would help with the noise, if the monitors can accept it (which they should). Try with a TRS instead of a TS.

Yeah… Yamaha HS7 actually have a XLR.

Plus this for the other side…

Also could be 6.3 on both ends.

Should help, no ?

EDIT:
But can’t the noise be from the Bass to the DAI. Unsure if Output connections will improve sound coming in… only out… or are you contemplating potential noise coming from TS cable or Standard 3.5mm cable to PC… that can be causing EMF ?

Yeah and I bet that 1/4" jack is also TRS/balanced.

Yours probably is, I was referring to @Malyngo’s issue. Yours is probably that your bass preamp is amplifying some noise and that’s getting picked up by the mic preamp in the DAI that is also amplifying it. Even humbuckers can let some noise through. Does it change depening on how you are facing or where you are standing?

Yes it is.

I did have the impression that it improves if I step away from my PC:
(Note 10 Fans… 420mm CPU cooler with 3x14mm)… so that’s my main suspicion.

I will try different positioning… with the volume fiddling I managed to sort that noise passing into the Line Outs / DAW.

Yeah this sounds like normal PC EMF radiation leakage. Most PCs are terrible for this.

People will tell you to check and see if the cavities in the bass are shielded well; this can help to a limited extent, but the real fix is isolating the source of the EMF or removing it via facing or positioning.

That’s why I would try with PC off and a “disconnected” notebook (on battery & without ethernet) first.
That way you can rule out the PC (or not).
Than connect power to the notebook.
After connect ethernet…

I would do that BEFORE anything else, especially decisions what monitor to buy and why (connection types)…

Yeah, that’s exactly what I am going to do. Wife and kids will go on vacations next weekend(I changed jobs 2 months ago… no vacation days yet)… so I’ll have additional time to rework around the office and see what happens.

I’m way out over my skis talking about electronics, but I’d expect the processor to generate emf noise. This might help because the power cord might be acting as an antenna, but you also might need to mess with relative positioning or do something else to eliminate noise. If you could put metal between the laptop and you that should do it, maybe the laptop on one side of a car and you on the other.

But how will he get the car in his practice room???

I would simplify the approach. Often (at least in my case) it is a ground issue with the cabling, not EMF noise of a processor.

If you can rule out ground issues, you can start thinking about more complicated scenarios…

If I find the time, I can make a “funny” video with wiggling loose USB connectors and strange Ethernet Cable noises…

Balanced. I first had unbalanced connections and the noise was always there.
Radeon 6900 XT, having the PC on my desk with tempered glass instead of metal also doesn’t really help.
I couldn’t play games like Jedi Survivor or BF 2042 without having noise.

Yeah mine has a tempered glass side too and is the source of all the noise issues I have vever had.

I’m picking up a set of studio monitors next week to use when my daughter is out here. I think I’ve found a set that I like at a local Music Go Round. Adam T7V’s but they’ve got a few sets of JBL 305’s and KRK Rokit 5’s if the Adams sell. I need to get cables ordered so I’ve got them on hand when I get them home. I’m just wondering if standard XLR are the right cable or if monitors need some kind of specialized XLR that I don’t know about? Unless I’m wrong, I plan on running these from the control outputs on my mixer.

I used these:

Assuming your mixer has 6.5 outs?

6.3 mm is standard 1/4" TRS. Just look for 1/4" TRS to XLR male in a length that meets your needs. I’d be careful with the quality of the super cheap ones, but you don’t need to spend a fortune, unless you want Monster cables to match your Cybertruck.

I’m using a Mackie Profx 10v3 so I can go XLR out through main out or 1/4" TRS out through control room. At the moment, I’m just going out straight into an Ampeg 500W combo amp so I’m open to any suggestions, I don’t know enough to have a strong opinion here.

Oh gawd… yeah… 6.3!

Yeah… that scenario also.
