I decided I prefer the simple route with the Aftershock because of how good the presets are. I only swapped the fuzz out. Even then I only switched to another official SA fuzz circuit.
Here some sound samples (including some envelopes) of presets available for the C4 in the community section.

First try for a compact configuration:
- Tuner
- Ampeg Opticomp
- Earthquaker Devices Blumes
- Jam Pedals Delay Llama
- BDDI
Delay doesn’t seem all that useful. I will try adding a second distortion if I get the Alpha Omicron to sound not too harsh ![]()
Tried the SVT style setting, but switched to the Bassman style.
I was going to say something about having 3 drives on there but then I realized that I have 3 reverbs on my big board and the only reason I don’t have a fourth one is because I ran out of room. I do have a TS, OD, and fuzz on there as well though.
Sushi Box Underground Accelerator tube pre-amp
Fairfield Barbershop low gain overdrive
Strobostomp tuner
Open spot is for a compressor, eventually.
Well, the only pedals I want to have always on are the compressor and the BDDI. And the BDDI has another utility as a DI as well. Comes in handy if you want to play ampless over the PA.
The Blumes is there mainly for this song ![]()
I can get close enough to the sound with it.
Like many preamps, I think of the BDDI as being as much of an amp sim as a drive. Actually the Alpha/Omicron could be too if it were the Alpha/Omega Ultra (for the EQ).
This is why I strongly dislike clean, transparent preamps. For me they always need to add some color, like the Tech 21’s or the Darkglass pedals; otherwise just get an EQ pedal.
To e fair, more often than not it provides the XLR out for the board. If you happen to be running an amp sim elsewhere in your chain (like from a NAM profiler or something along those lines), it would make sense to want that preamp to be more transparent. A Radial JDI or something would do the job but we usually have a preamp already sitting around.
This is one reason why I stopped trying to make hybrid workflows work and just went fully ITB. Much happier now, the convenience is massive.
The 14 year old kid in me still likes the stomp boxes. I think either workflow works fine, but I think you should pick one and go with it. I still intend on putting a midi board together at some point but that would be it’s own seperate thing aside from my pedalboard.
I am loving the multi effect pedals though and think they work perfectly on a big analog board to give you all those pedals you only use once in a blue moon and wouldn’t otherwise find the space for.
How do you like the Underground Accelerator?
I like it, it’s subtle but it does add a fat wooly tone that sounds great. So far I’ve left the EQ alone and played with gain, which I like at noon most of the time. It’s definitely an “always on” pedal in the sense that it’s just warming up the tone you’ve already got going.
Anyone have thoughts on Dunlop’s Justin Chancellor Cry Baby Wah Pedal? Worth it, tried it, etcerta or alternatives?
my big azz pedalboard, which is in the basement, wasn’t getting dragged upstairs to my living room where ive mostly been practicing lately. to remedy this i did the sensible thing. i sold a poop ton of stuff and re-did it as a buncha tiny boards. so now i have a bass board, a rhythm board and just for fun a Lil synth/electronic board. oh yeah and i got a cali 76. oh yeah and a whatcha callit, darkglass anagram. because (say it with me), of course i did.
btw, reminds me. i think I’ve said it before, but if you need a ridiculous amount of clean power in a really tiny box and really cheap, the sweetfoot power supplies are stonkin.
It’s on my wishlist, but too expensive. Distortion and EQ can get you close to that Tool tone for less. ![]()
I have a pretty basic setup for Looping:
Donner - Circle Looper, Lax Comp Analog Compressor and ABY Box
TC Electronics - Hall of Fame 2
Boss - DD8 Digital Delay
Electro Harmonix - Big Muff and Bass Clone
Just this : tc electronic stage tuner A digitech drop ( to play standard D tuning ) and a boss limiter/enhance/compressor that I’m trying to figure out
