I’m used to 105s as that’s all I’ve played, but I’m curious if the 100s will be noticeably better for endurance.
If you are heavy handed your E string will be more prone to buzzing with the 100 than with the 105. Something to keep into consideration.
I’m using the NYXL 45-100’s now and am definitely glad I went with that and not the 45-105. I wouldn’t mind a .050 G but it’s fine at .045. Getting plenty of tone and feels out of the 0.100.
The NYXL’s are great. I don’t know if I would say worth the money over the EXL’s, probably not frankly, but they are definitely really good strings.
I like the sustain and how they keep in tune so well. But for my bass, it doesn’t make it sing as much as the Dunlop Superbrights did. I know each bass has to be matched with the right strings though.
They do really stay in tune, impressive. I just gave them a normal stretch while putting them on, nothing big, and they have stayed roughly in tune since. Very impressive for new strings.
Yup, I have NYXL 50-105s on my Jazz bass. I don’t even bother to check tuning any more. It’s dead on every time I pull the thing out of the gig bag. The 12th fret harmonic might need adjusting by a cent or two, but that’s about it.
I’ve had equally good luck with the Stringjoy 50-105s on my P-bass. They’re a little less bright than the NYXLs, which suits the P-bass, but they have about the same tuning stability. Nice folks, too.
Oh, and to stick to the topic the OP actually asked about, I prefer the 50 on the G. But I also run 11-52s on my electrics, and, until fairly recently, 13s on my acoustics. I tend to play hard.
As far as I under stand the difference in question would be warmer bottom string tone and brighter top string tone…
I’m no expert though I just read lots but not particularly about guitar strings lol
Late to the party, but I just put some NYXL 45-100s on my bass. Smaller neck, the smaller E string works really well for it. I have to say I’m impressed with how… CLEAN these strings sound. I’m honestly in love. I’ve always loved D’Addario for violin strings, and now I’m just as enamored with their bass strings.
Yep. Even their EXL’s are great. I love them both. D’Addarios are my favorite bass string I have tried by far, so far out of D’Addario, EBMM, Elixir, Bass Centre Elite, and Warwick. The others didn’t even come close really.
