Good times. I was lucky, we were based at a field with 150’ wide runways serving commercial traffic. I could have landed sideways across the width on that SOB in a 90 degree strong crosswind

I have done some gnarly ones where you kick it over at the last second like that. Fun fun.

I’ve had to calm down more than one fellow passenger on a commercial flight where the pilot flying on a crosswind landing had to do a light touch on the landing gear on the side we were crabbing into, and then lift and rotate to align with the runway before dropping all of the weight on the gear. I’d lean over and say “Crosswind landing. The pilot did that on purpose”. Didn’t seem to help much.

Yeah. You have to firmly plant it or you’ll skid, but too much and you’ll bounce and it’s a go-around. Takes a while to get down.

Hey, @howard , you’ll appreciate this “new” video, especially the navigation section starting around 7:38. VOR, it’s not.

Instant anxiety.

I get anxiety from a video game character being high up. :joy:

No need for supplemental O2? IIRC, when I used to skydive, if the plan was to go above 15k, there had to be O2 on board…

Always wanted to get a pilots license - don’t think it’s in the cards tho.

Pilots at minimum should have supplemental oxygen available above 10k. Everyone else above 15k for sure. This is one area the turbine planes start to be nice for, despite cost (and I could never own one).

You should take precautions against hypoxia if you’re planning to be above 10k feet for an extended period. I’ve not gone that high nor do I really have plans to at this point, but this is an interesting look at it:

I did a few competitions. It was a lot of fun. I was surprised how nice everyone was at these meets. I want to lift heavy again, but also don’t want to deal with injuries.

I don’t really have a strong urge for competition. I just like doing it for myself.

484lbs? I’m with you about the big 3, too much injuries.

Few years ago I changed my workout: more intense (very close to failure), less sets and weights used.

507 or 509 lbs. I can’t remember exactly. I did the same as you. Instead of heavy 5, 3, 1 I’m doing 2 or 3 sets of 12-15.

5-3-1 Wendler? Good framework, very easy to customize with supplementary and accessory work.

I’m figuring out my rep split. I like going heavy occasionally just to challenge myself and prove I can.

I’m leaning more towards a program where I start at 8-10 reps. Then progressively increase weight and drop reps each week. Go until I hit heavy singles or a deload week, and restart.

“So, I’m interested in what everyone else does for fun around here, aside of anything having to do with bass.” …

Yoga, yoga, and more yoga. Just kidding. Yoga is by far my favorite and i’ve been practicing for decades, but I also do kickboxing, weights and recently i’ve gotten into dancing. Turns out taking bassbuzz has really helped me dancing in a way i had never anticipated.

Beyond that, I really enjoy drinking tea, going to the ocean, and watching TV.

I have bird dogs, which is a 2 for 1 hobby. That means I train dogs and occasionally get to hunt. I also bowl.

That’s awesome. I miss all the trees in Maryland (it actually made me a bit claustrophobic driving around Montgomery county when I was back home). I would have thought that you’d have the obligatory Chesapeake Bay Retriever being on the eastern shore and all.

I had a chessie at one point. Great dog and I miss her. That said, for a waterfowl dog, ill take a lab every day over a chessie, as they dont have the attitude. As for an all around gundog, springers have my vote. The little brown American Water Spaniel in the picture are also commonly referred to as Townhouse Chessies for both stubbornness and the coat. I love them all at the end of the day.

Here is a chessie that I trained for someone else.
