Pickup stuff

Hey! I’m planning, to recommend a pickup replacement to a friend, who owns a DEAN Z metalman bass, But like…I can’t really find any useful info. Or maybe i’m daft…but, yea. Any pickup recommendations for This bass?

I wouldn’t change the pickup on this unless you/ he plans to use it as a main Axe.

As for the pickup, it’s just a “soap bar” you can get from Nordstrand, Bartolini, EMG, etc.

Mmm…oke

Any specific models of pickups?

This depends on what you are after. Tight, warm, punchy, crisps, clear, bright, nasal, etc, there’s one for every flavor.

Fat and punchy,

Bartolini and Nordy is excellent for that shade of tone. I’d also look at Delano. Get the Quad coil.

Thanks!

I second the Nordstrands. I came extremely close to taking a router to my bass in order to fit the Big Singles in my bass until saner heads talked me down from that ledge.

Check specs very carefully.

Measure twice, order once.

I have a bass I am currently preparing to mod.
One I have built from scratch from various parts, and I will put int in the Project Bass thread.
I originally used fairly cheap pickups from ebay.
What I am thinking about for this one is a Rickenbacker style alnico V bridge pickup-to get as much treble and hopefully be a little harsh/brittle, and a ceramic large pole neck pickup to be more warm/mellow.
No idea how it will sound but looking forward to finding out.
I will need to do some routing at the bridge, and I need to experiment/learn how to do this, I also need to save up for the neck pickup.

In short- feel free to experiment.
