My UAD plugins work perfectly. I’m on Windows…
Figured it out… I had to really dig deep into the system and delete ALL files associated with iLok and then start with a fresh install of the Licence manager.
What a pain! Well, sometimes it helps to write it out to the forum, vent some frustration and bring down the blood pressure to think more clearly again. ![]()
ILok, best software ever made
The other problem is Tahoe - most music software vendors are suggesting to hold off updating for now.
True for every new OS version, I guess. But, it’s now in 26.2 and pretty much everyone is OK.
My problem happened while still on the previous OS… probably some tiny preference file getting corrupted…
Audient, Arturia and Bitwig at least all still say to wait (or did last week).
Ah, Ok! My litmus test is always Rogue Amoeba’s Loopback, as this messes with CoreAudio a lot, but is also very important for my audio routing (especially during online teaching).
My AKAI MPK Mini IV arrived, and it looks and feels great.
I’m still in the “gotta hide my new toy from my girlfriend” phase, so I could not do too much with it, as she came home early today.
My plan was to sell her the idea of “I need this this gadget” with a finished track, but I have a feeling that this will take longer than expected.
So my new plan is to convince here that this is something like a beat buddy. Everybody needs a beat buddy!
Are there (free or very cheap) plugins (like samples and MIDI files) that allow me to abuse the AKAI as a beat Buddy?
Yes, most DAWs have sampler built-ins, and some are specialized drum machines. Check Studio One, it apparently has two built in - Presence and SampleOne XT.
By the way, Studio One is now called Fender Studio Pro ![]()
@Whying_Dutchman: are you “mobile” when in the park? I.e., on an iPad?? These plug-ins/apps sound made for you (though not cheap):
Cool - will look into it!
Another question: before I will work on a serious track, I want to do a very very silly one, cause I know it will please my girlfriend, and she will forgive me that I got the AKAI instantly (at least that’s the plan)
For that I need to cut a sample - “Maja, wo bist du?” (“Maja, where are you?”) into seperate words & syllables or parts of words:
- Maja
- aja
- ja
- a
- wo
- o
- bist
- ist
- du
- u
I assume that this must be done manually, using Audacity or something like that?
Can I assign such samples to the pads or keyboard and “play” them, maybe even in different pitch?
Questions, questions! ![]()
Yes, I’m mobile, but I always use my little Windows laptop.
I could use an Android tablet, but I don’t have anything Apple.
That would be a problem. I’m selling quite a lot of stuff currently, but I noticed that I have purchased a lot of stuff as well. Don’t know how that happened ![]()
So, I’m penniless again.
Will look into it. I was thinking about selling my Android tablet anyway and get an iPad, but I need a 12”++ size, due to my failing eye sight, and that’s quite expensive in the Apple world…
EDIT That’s 8€ per app, hahahaha!
I can afford it after I’ll sell my body (again) in the red light district this weekend!
Hah, I thought there were more expensive…
@howard : IIRC, you were worried about MIDI routing (especially in Logic!?). Have you seen this plug-in?
They became cheap, just like me
Still, the issue is having an iPad. I’m dancing around that topic since a few weeks. Currently I have a 12.4” Samsung Tablet.
I hate it, but it has the right size - if smaller I can’t read anything on screen.
A similar sized iPad is quite expensive … and the flash size is mediocre, which is an issue as I cannot/will not use the cloud in the park (I have 256GB + 1TB SD ony my Android Tablet).
This is actually pretty cool for someone doing this just as a hobby. I think that I tried out Hammerhead a very long time ago in a distant galaxy far far away.
no! That’s pretty cool.
You can edit the sample or you can simply drag it to the timeline to the correct notes and just trim it in the DAW. Or if you want to play it with the keyboard, the sampler is good enough you can specify the offset and duration of the original sample to play for each note trigger. Lots of ways to accomplish this.
So after updating to macOS Tahoe, I now have the wonderful issue that my computer has been duplicated in iLok, and I can no longer access the original machine to deactivate my plugins.
They really need to improve the system and its functionality, given how widely iLok is used across the industry.
Ah crap… Very sorry to hear ![]()
