I have my moments, too, when I want to pack it all in and chuck my basses… like trying to slap cleanly on Level 42’s Lessons In Love… sigh, my brain and my thumb just can’t seem to get along…

Slapping and pick playing are rough because they’re more different from what you’re used to than they feel like they should be. They will mess you up enough that your fretting will get sloppy on things that you normally have in the bag.
To get as good at them as you are finger style, you’d need to put in say… 50% of the time you have worked on that. If you think about it, that is a LOT. You’re on lesson 42. Each lesson is like 40 minutes of play. That’s a good 30 hours right there. How much time have you spent practicing slap? Probably less than three hours.
