It’s so true. I now have a ‘completed’ list on Songsterr, so I can play songs I have already recorded. I’m determined to keep at least some of them fresh in my memory.
This does mean I’m spending less time learning new songs, but it’s all good!

The ones I keep fresh are the ones that are on the band set list, the rest become mental flotsam and jetsam. That said, the purpose of doing so many covers is to learn and get better at playing. Some of the songs are easy, others harder. I try to take something away from each song.
Silly thing, I was jamming with our guitarist this afternoon, he asked if I’d knew xxxx, no, I replied. So he started calling out the chord changes and bang, we were kind’a playing the song. I really like being confident enough to do that now, and that I put down to bashing through the covers.
