Practice by improvising rather than learning songs

Have I told this story?…forgive me if I did.
At a bar one night with a female friend of mine who was telling me how much she hated ketchup. I had a $100 bill in my wallet so (being half to 3/4s of the way in the bag) I pulled it out, put it on the bar and said “this is yours if you drink an entire bottle of ketchup right now”.
It was worth every penny.

When my daughter was around 5 or 6 she’d put ketchup in those little paper condiment containers and then drink it with a straw.

So you would think she really liked ketchup right??? She never actually put ketchup on her food ever

I love ketchup, I sometimes have fries with it but no way I could drink a bottle of it lol

I guess it all boils down to why. WHY do you play? Are your goals more professionally oriented, to be in a band, to compose your own music or do you simply plunk away for the enjoyment? Many (myself proudly included) just do it for fun. It’s deeply enjoyable and satisfying to be able to play along with the songs you’ve always loved to listen to, and I can do that without being a grand master at reading music. To me, it should always be tailored to what brings the most enjoyment to the player. I don’t mind being mediocre, not one darned bit

Digging Kevin’s vibe here! Thank you. I think there’s a lot of us that feel exactly like that. I started old, I’m never gonna be a rock star.

THAT’S NOT IMPORTANT. What is important is that every every.single.time. i strap up and get my fingers moving it makes me happy.

There’s nothing like being on the way to work and hearing something on the radio and thinking " hey, i think i can play that!"

It gets even better when i look up the music and realize “ok, gotta figure out the tempo and fingering, but i CAN play this!”

And it’s pretty much just the tops when i realize i NEVER IN MY LIFE thought I’d do this, and i now do it daily.

Bassbuzz has given me an incalculable amount for what i paid. Learned some fundamentals, and Josh managed to keep the fun in it.

Keep plucking, keep slapping. Me, ima go break some sh*t.

To people that say they can never do something I say Never say Never. Of course you can do it BUT you have to put in the time and effort.

Glad to hear your getting some enjoyment and satisfaction from learning the Bass. :+1: :+1: :+1:

IMHO I can’t think of an easier stringed instrument to learn to play than the Bass. YMMV though. :slightly_smiling_face:

You really lucked out by finding the B2B course because I have NEVER seen ANY course that is so well put together that an absolute beginner can take and actually learn to play in a short time frame. Just takes time and practice, practice practice.

Not sure how much musical experience you started the course with but I can tell you music is a life long journey and YOU NEVER STOP LEARNING :+1: :+1: :+1:

It was the full on goose egg. the real luck was when i typed in " very first bass lesson" and found josh’ video where he really just stands there and explains how a bass works-because some of us need that.
Finding b2b had been really beneficial for me. I recommend it whenever i hear someone say they’d like to play

Just for the record, I’m not mediocre. I’m the best damn bass player in my house, possibly my street.

Don’t move near me. I already claimed my territory, lol. I’m the resident funk master of the 3 adjoining cul-de-sac.

I’m claiming I’m the very best bass player in this particular square yard. Cool thing is, my personal square yard where I’m a star travels with me.
