I always forget she’s a bassist
Yay!
ANOTHER reason why 5 is too few, LOL.
Les Claypool - no one sounds anything like him, some of the craziest sounds I’ve ever heard from a bass. How can he sing while playing those lines?
Geddy Lee - one of my favorite concerts, Rush’s farewell tour at Rogers Arena in Vancouver BC. Didn’t miss a single note, opened with YYZ. Epic. Neil Peart died shortly after this show. SO thankful I got to see them.
Justin Chancellor - might be my favorite Band. I could listen to the polyrhythm in Rosetta Stoned indefinitely and probably still couldn’t figure it out.
Flea - The best member of RHCP. So funky. Killer slap lines.
John Paul Jones - here I am thinking I could play some Zeppelin. Ramble On is easy enough, until the chorus :’(
I would put Davie504 at 6
Who ?
If you really think about it if it wasn’t for @JoshFossgreen teaching abilities many of us would have given up shortly after starting and left our newly purchased basses to gather dust in the back of a cupboard.
So realistically although our bass heroes made the spark it was Josh that truly ignited it
So many mentioned here already. I’ll add Jojo Garza (Los Lonely Boys).
He’s my favorite 6’7” bassist. Also, I didn’t want to be accused of favoritism or something (cough @John_E cough)
In no particular order,
Timothy b schmit -The Eagles
Chris Squire - Yes
Johnette Napolitano - Concrete Blonde , Dream 6
Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath
Mariusz Duda - Riverside
Cheers Brian
As per Pams comment: Favorite based on multiple qualities
Don Ciccone > Frankie Vali and the 4 Seasons
Chuck Garric> Alice Cooper
Michael Anthony> Van Halen
Sir Paul> Wings
Esperanza Spalding
John Entwistle
Les Claypool
John Paul Jones
Flea
Justin Chancellor
Oh heck you are making me .
My “pro” list would go:
- Louis Johnson
- Donny Benet (that sexy look he gives after each song)
- Nathan East (his Daft Punk & Phill Collins stuff is killer)
- Stuart Zender / Paul Turner (Jamiroquai’s bassists)
- Verdine White / Paul S Denman (Couldnt decide between)
Regarding us a bit more amateurish, I like all of you guys who post in Post your covers! (2019-2022) - #8600
If it our favorite and not necessarily the best, I would have to say: (Not in order)
David Ellefson
Gene Simmons (why I started bass)
Geezer Butler
Ian Hil
Jimmy Bain
I know there are better players but these are the ones I like.
John Entwistle
Paul McCartney
James Jamerson
Adam Clayton
Paul Simonon
