chart updated. thank you.
Corrected. Thank you.
I would love one in that price range. I actually saw one for $75 once, but by the time I was ready to drive to get it, it already sold.
This is purely a FUN FACTOR for me. I fully expect it to be exactly what it is, and no more, and to me, it would be worth $100 or less, but I find the $300 MSRP extremely pricey, and not a good value. I know it is Roland, and they are Boss, and they do effects and sound rather well, plus have a great build quality, but the offering, to me is not worth that retail pricetag.
Again, if you can get one for a good value, I think it would be really cool to have.
also, I would not consider this, if it were to be my only source of sound and effects, but I would have it, and use it in some situations.
I would still go smaller amp, (rumble 40 is what everybody suggests, but I am not a big fan) and Zoom B1-four over the Rolland, due to having the effects and amp separate. You could upgrade the amp and keep your effects in tact.
I like the sound of that Peavy that @soundman1402 mentioned a day or two ago. The Peavy Max 100, otherwise, I prefer to get used 10" combo’s from SWR, Hartke, GK, Orange, etc… if you can find a good value. (I am not directing most of this post towards you @BigAl, it is just my response to the thread topic, while replying to your post.)
It get a bad rap. But then again I would never pay 300 plus $$ for it. Sound lot better than my Blackstar fly3. But also a lot bigger insize too. It was in great shape when I got it. But not worth $300 plus dollars for sure.
That Max100 is Peavey’s gift to the bass playing world! Friend of mine guessed it was probably a $500 amp. He was shocked when I told him it cost half that!
I really like that amp, but I want the next step up, the 250 watt with the thrust or burst control, with built in compression, not that I need more compression, (having just received my 4th today) but I really like that model, plus @LesterH (have not seen him in a while, I know he is really busy over on BassEducation site and is taking private lessons with Damien Erskine, at least last I heard, plus had other family / personal stuff going on, wish him well, and hope to see him pop his head up now that I tagged him) bought the bigger brother, the 500 watt version (that Mike @itsratso also bought and sold at one time), and Lester was very happy with it.
That prevents me from getting this one, even though I could really use (or should I say, really want) a tiny, pocket sized amp in my collection.
Problem is, back when I almost bought it, it was $229 IIRC, and was not in stock, and when it got back in stock, it shot up to $299 or higher, so I crossed it off my list and moved on. I have not looked in a long time, and that $149 sure is tempting, plus I would like it to use the DI into my DAI for recording. I realize that is not necessary, but I like the idea of that set up, and it was working wonders for Lesters covers, his sound was killer on everything he did. Of course, he is a much better player than I am, but I like to think the amp would help me sound a bit better on recordings. (I like to think this, even though it could or is completely false), plus, I have wanted a new head for a long time (or used), just have not found the right one for the right price yet. I would still love to find a nice SWR 4004 or something like that, to keep my Amp / Cab the same brand, but that is not a huge deal.
There is a Carvin BX500 that I almost bought for $150. It was like new, and had just been completely overhauled, with new tube by either Carvin, or another amp repair tech. It was the perfect amp for me, a great AMP for anybody really, it is said to have the SVT sound in a solid state (tube pre-amp) about the size of legal paper and about 3" thick, weighing under 5 lbs.
I was gonna get it, but I went into the hospital, or detox, or jail, or somewhere, and when I got out, it was gone, even though I had it lined up for me to buy it. Oh well, was not in the cards.
There is another one, in LIKE NEW condition on Offer Up now, from another guy that is a real pain to deal with.
He said he will sell it for $250, or trade it for a bass worth $500. Yeah, you read that right, he will take $250 or a bass worth $500.
I showed him all my basses (worth up to $500) and he didn’t like any of them, not even enough to trade for the bass and a little cash (like $50).
This same guy has a Gallien Krueger RB350 or Backline 350 (I can’t recall for sure) that he is selling for $350 or will trade for a bass worth $500.
I didn’t even bother showing him my stuff for that, besides, I didn’t really want that amp anyway (I would love to have that amp, but not going to pay for one, and I have a pretty used Backline 250 BL anyway, but it is a bit tricky to use, although it will play just fine thru my amp when playing, and songs great, but recording from the XLR out, not so good on this one, there are some internal things going on, and some of the switches used to bypass the pre-amp and stuff are working, but not all that reliable, otherwise, I would not even consider another amp for recording)
So, long story short, you make a good case to buy that BAM200 @Paul , and I have amazon credit right now, hmmm
But, now that I have just talked myself thru all that, some of those 5 watt amps could work just fine for recording, NO?
Depends on the sound. I LOVE TC Electronic Amps for their transparent clean tone, so if I add any effect, and amp or cab sim, the pre-amp in the TC won’t really matter.
I will have to look at those little 5 watt amps to see if they have XLR out, and effects loop, or at least a switch to make the XLR out bypass the pre-amp, or go out before the sound goes thru the pre-amp.
Lots to think about.
It sucks when you have a decent amount of amazon credit, and no real goal for it’s use. I think I have a case of the " just buy something"
Who knows, maybe I will buy that amp, then send it back if its not what I like or wanted, or if I just no longer want it in 25 days
If I bought and sold as much stuff as I talk about buying and selling, I would be a combo of Al @Al1885 , @John_E and @PamPurrs rolled up into one.
You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince (princess).
That’s because Kodak was never really a camera company, they were mainly a chemicals and paper company, and they were right about that regarding digital for about the next 30 years… but they did also have the first commercially available DSLR system, the Kodak DCS. Kodak’s biggest problem was probably similar to Gibson: they had their fingers in too many pies and it took their focus off doing the things that they were good at.
Tell me what camera company IS doing well currently besides Canon? How many kids have hear of Minolta, Konica or Pentax?
Nikon?
Nikon lost about 5% market share last year and they’re in 3rd place behind Sony so probably no?

Nikon?
Indeed. My Sara is a big Nikon user for her photography business. She has a couple thousand dollars worth of lenses to go with her camera body. The sucky thing is that Canon and Nikon accessories are not interchangeable, so once you’re vested in one or the other, it’s nearly impossible to switch.

LOL well, I’m on #3
I was actually referring to basses and such, but yeah that too
I’m glad I keep most of the basses and not the wives. That would be awful.

The most costly accessory would be the lenses.
There are lots of lens adapters Nikon to Canon bodies available.
You just have to be careful which functions are transferred.
Here is one, of many videos about this:

I worked with a guy in the military who had been married multiple times. They nicknamed him ‘Marzipan’. I don’t miss much about that life, but the gallows humour was really rather good.

The dynamics on that BAM200 are pretty good (it really reminds me of my Phil Jones amp, super clean too). It’s like 100w for 8ohms cabs so something to consider but that is enough to power most cabs anyway. 5w is a joke and I wouldn’t invest in that. Just get an audio interface or preamp pedal instead. That said, can’t you just use your new VT Bass as DI?
Phil Jones C2 (200W) and the Trace Elliot 110 (300W) are both very small and under 8KG.
@T_dub you are too kind man! Yeah I love that amp still use it all the time. Sorry I have been MIA I have had a ton of stuff going on as of recent.
Hey Lester, just glad you popped in to say Hi, good to hear from you. I have been in the same boat, so I have not had time to go over to Bass Edu at all. Its cool tho, I grandfathered in with the lifetime membership, so I got time, when I get time that is.
And for what it is worth, that BQ250 is back in stock at amazon and in now only $205, so only about $35 more than the BAM ($169.99) going by prices I just checked, it is back up at Sweetwater as well.
Unfortunately Sweetwater doesn’t have the BQ250, but Amazon does, nice price too. if I were going to buy an amp today, for the reasons I want a new head, I would buy it. I just can’t justify the purchase right now, even with $160 in amazon credit.
