"remove" the bass line from a track

Looks like it’s coming.

RX9 is good but it’s important to remember that the master rebalance is mostly a smaller side feature it has. It’s main uses are its horde of features around audio repair. As part of that it also happens to be excellent at raising or lowering the levels of EQ ranges it detects instruments at

A feature of other iZotope products I use a lot is that they are all very good at dynamic EQ - you set the EQ curve where you want it, and it applies more or less EQ as makes sense for the specific levels at the time. This allows for easy ways to adjust levels of specific ranges without killing the entire range all the time. It’s very smart and easy to use. As it is, Ozone also contains the same Master Rebalance as RX as well (though only allowing smaller adjustments for some reason). Though it’s also much less useful in Ozone anyway as at the mastering stage you have a lot more control anyway, when mixing multiple tracks.

RX is an amazing tool for what it does. You just need to ask yourself how much you need what it actually does, because if all you need it for is isolating or removing instruments, there’s free or cheap ways to do that (some of which use the same engine as iZotope, like moises or deezer), and also other iZotope products that are more suited to mixing and mastering than RX is (such as Neutron and Ozone, respectively, both of which are best in class at their jobs).

RX is probably the best tool you can find for working on audio that thas already been rendered as output, though. It’s got a pretty impressive feature set.

I wanted to add another free method for this.

Virtual DJ is free for home use, and uses the aforementioned Spleeter source to do a real time track separation. You can then mute the bass track and record the bassless version out to MP3/OGG/FLAC/WAV. which you can then drop into reaper.

It’s not quite as nice as Moises (that could be the MP3 vs M4A but I probably couldn’t have told the difference if I wasn’t muting one then the other to compare) but it also doesn’t have a 5 songs a month limit so if you’ve hit that limit and want to work on something else this is another option.

more necrobumping!

I discovered this very free opensource project recently: https://www.stemroller.com/

it’s not so great at isolating bass, but you could take the stems for the vox/drums/keys/guitar and load them into Audacity then mixdown and export a .wav or .mp3 file to play without the bass in the track.
