I love the idea of a Beginners Category. A place to post songs a beginner can play for easy practice and an incredible ego boost (I had one when I played my first full song) or a new member may be more comfortable posting a question, even if it has been asked 100 times over. I do not belive anybody I have seen on this forum would be rotten about answering the question a 101st time. I do not mind being linked to other threads for more info, if the gist of a question is answered without a forum crawl.
I dont answer much in questions because I consider myself at an interesting place between beginner and intermediate. I still havent finished B2B, but have gotten to the point where I can play 8 or 9 full songs with minimal reference while doing so. There are so many more skilled and knowledgable folks around here that can say things way better than I can. So I mostly lurk and absorb as much info as I can.
I have wanted to start writing âBeginner Song Dissectionsâ, breaking down songs that for me have been easy to learn, fun, and mildly challenging at parts. All from the perspective of a not so advanced player. Really only thing stopping that is not sure where to put it yet, as I dont want it taken as gospel, mainly just my observations/musings on some fun tunes. Iâd hate to have some fo my own bad habits be interpretated as someone who knows what theyâre doing
I think thatâs a fantastic idea! I look forward to reading them. If you do more than one, I recommend doing each as its own thread. It will make it easier to read through for anyone that finds them later.
It doesnât have to be gospel. The fact itâs your experience, is enough. As for where to put it, the Bass category works for anything that doesnât specifically go somewhere else.
Agreed here. When I put up my post about âadvice pleaseâ I was feeling kind of desperate and the responses I got were AMAZING. I am also new to using a forum and kind of struggle because it doesnât seem very intuitive (âwhere the H did my response go?â ) LOL. And I have learned from otherâs questions (hammer on comes to mind) and âchuggingâ (why wonât my fingers do what my brain wants them to do). To be very honest, I am pretty intimidated to be around experienced bass players. Although I have no reason to be! Iâve started making myself ask questions and everyone has been really kind.
I think that is one of the things that comes through best in Joshâs lessons. It is ok to fail, it is ok to suck but if you practice and persevere the suckage level decreases. Someone on this forum suggested recording yourself and recording yourself again after a period of practicing to see the differences.
Sometimes we are our own worst critics and we fail to recognise our victories, it may not be perfect but improvement is not to be underestimated.
Thatâs so very true @Deidheid. I think as beginner adults weâre sometimes guilty of thinking we should always be âlearningâ something.
Iâve been playing coming up on 3 years. Iâve had a long day 14 hr day on the tools. But I forced myself to do âjust 5 minutesâ before bed.
I sat down, set my drum machine to 90 bpm and just chose a simple progression like the one below. Just to have some fun. I lost track of time because that was nearly an hour ago. Did I learn anything new? No, but I sat down with a cup of tea and played my bass with a big smile.
If you play a little bit every day you will get better.
Pretty much nobody on this forum is a professional musician. So take it easy on yourself and accept that sucking is OK. Iâve never sucked at something so bad but loved it more than learning bass.
I guess it would be a good idea because honestly, I am not really intimidated by the more experienced bassists, I know that I know nothing and I know why I am here, but itâs very hard to find answers or beginner-friendly topics into the sea of threads and replies. This is probably the reason why the topics repeat themselves, because people cannot find them and so they ask over. When I am looking for answers, I would like them to be on my level.
Do you know whether Endless video was discontinued or sold to another company? Now the link redirects to a website called VideoLink, and it seems to have been changed into something completely different. Some sort of video sharing service, which wonât be free.
EDIT: LoopTube could be a viable option. I donât know whether it is as good as Endless video was, but it can make simple loops and it is possible to change speed. I just found out about this and gave it a try: https://looptube.io/
