Revised BtB Course

I wouldn’t look at it like that, more of a bigger picture thing - there’s still a lot of great stuff to learn in the course, and your end goal is finishing the course. It’s fine to leave some things undone with a mental note to come back to them and revisit.

Or even just leave them if you end up happy without them. I skipped the whole slap module because I don’t slap and am not really wanting to. It’s been seven years and I haven’t looked back at it.

I’m assuming the 2 sets of 6 notes are the killer in Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag:

At least they were for me. I had to just look at those 2 snippets and play super slowly over and over until I picked up some muscle memory and then slowly bring up to speed.

As a bonus, if you play a 5 string, I like hitting that ending B after the guitar riff with the B of the E string as well as the open B together to get that octave chord. Nice and powerful.

I’ve just finished Lessons 4 and 5 of Module 11, and I’m a lot happier now. That song by Cake in Lesson 5 got a bit tricky in the fast workout, but I pretty much nailed the slow and medium.

What I am finding more and more is that the theory side of things is getting a bit too quick for my brain to process, but I’m not overly worried as I’ll pick that up on the next pass.

I’m sure it’ll start to sink in soon. It’s been a revelation for me. I’m hearing players play roots and fifths, I’m noticing triads in the wild, diatonic chords make sense but I don’t have the sequences memorized yet. The other day I saw someone play a G major chord and I was able to figure out the fingering based on root, third, fifth, and octave. As others have said, just keep working at it and things will fall into place.

Thanks for the ‘heads up’! :smiling_face_with_tear:

I was having difficulty with the 6,6,4,3 on the A string of ‘Song for my Father’ (M11, L2) , and it’s conspicuous by it’s absence!

I think that I will practice every measure separately (on pause) before I even attempt the lesson prior to the slow workout.

As @howard said, it’s one of the toughest songs on the course (it’s the hardest I’ve done so far). Playing each bar separately is ok, but stitching it together is hell on wheels.

I’m confused by what you mean. It looks like both the song and that phrase are still there?

Also, I would at least watch the lesson first to get any tips on playing it that Josh may have and maybe give the slow workout a once-through before practicing separately. Then you’d at least have a strategy and an idea of the groove or feel of the song.

Those are all good tips, thank you.

Papa beat me over the head with that brand new bag first run through the course… I had to go back to that one :stuck_out_tongue: You are not alone :stuck_out_tongue:

With the course revision … Bookmarks are a thing now… so even easier to flag what needs working on… a GREAT change to the course

Edit: in the old course … to flag something you wanted to revisit… you had to manually uncheck the “completed” box to see what you needed to work on.

I forgot to mention the bookmarks, great shout. They really are a great addition to the revised course.
