in all honesty, go to a church. They are ALWAYS looking for bass players. May not be your thing but you’ll have a group to play with.

Hang on, churches have bands…?
In churches I’ve been to (in the UK) I’ve never heard anything beyond pre-recorded music or ye olde pipe organ.
I do confess I’ve not been to a huge amount outside of childhood, weddings and funerals as I have a similar issue to @Mac regards risk of spontaneous combustion etc

Yeah man, most all of them here have live bands. The bigger ones over here also have incredible setups…like professional quality stuff including lighting, pa systems, etc…

I’m looking into that, actually. There was that recent post that got me thinking about it, and now I’ve reached out to a couple of churches in my area. (I am a Christian, but I usually attend a non-instrumental church, so that’s why I’m not playing at “my” church.)
