Scale Cards for Bass

That’s why I didn’t just do up a set and post them… everyone has individual needs, and will make sets based on what scales they want to learn / memorize

I also made up the Melodic Major, Harmonic minor, and the 5 mode shapes as well for my set

Need to fact check this one but what about something like this for the major scale?
I’m thinking maybe make red circles for the Root spots and maybe fret numbers but they probably aren’t needed.

There ya go!! You can do lots with that… I never thought to do it that way!

I like it! Very cool!

I’m wondering if it would be better to 7 frets. I mean once you slide it around it’s not going to be long enough anyway. The masochist in me who is avoiding life by working on this is also thinking maybe 6 strings wide so you can go left/right

That was why I made the cards smaller 5 fret chunks …

I am sure you will work out something that works for you!

I’ve been making sheets like these for chord tones, but yours are way nicer…nice job!

It looks great but I realized I don’t have a single hole puncher  just a 3x one

I used this site for the scale charts: https://bassguitarscales.org/

Now that you already got it printed … I’m gonna be that guy :stuck_out_tongue:

You could have went Red for roots, maybe a blue for 3rds and a green for 5ths … a way to have your diatonic triads marked, and have your root/5th/octave paths marked as well

Hahaha nice! I’ll do that on my final. I made a mistake and punched a wrong hole. I was able to find a hole puncher!

I like how you are doing it though… kind of combining my set up with @HighlandBass 's suggestion  Very cool

EDIT: I would have had colored set up on my set. BUT… I made those BEFORE taking the course, and actually knowing anything about scales, intervals, or triads… LMAO!! oops.

The colours are the normal fret markers; so I show 3, 5, 7 and 9 as blue and 12 as green, then repeat up to 24. So that little clip has 5, 7, 9 and 12. Note it’s just a spreadsheet; I can’t be bothered with anything fancier!

What about “tangerine” thirds and “fuchsia” fifths? :scream_cat:

I may have to re-work my set … I like how yours is going

I use Gimp (free) for editing if you want I’d be happy to share the XCF file I’m using. Maybe I could save as a PSD if you are on photoshop.

I use Jasc PSP v9.0 ( Paint Shop Pro ) … it’s like Photoshop lite … more geared to web graphics

I can just rework them here and incorporate your ideas into my new set

So … Here is the one drawback I see to your way of these cards ( and its not a big issue ) but the way your card is set up, when put over the neck, shows only the 1 scale ( in this case Cmaj ) …

I do like that it shows all notes and intervals for the whole scale everywhere tho!! That I love.

The smaller cards, make it easy to say… I want to know the notes of Gmaj, or F#maj …

with a long scale card like yours, moving the root becomes tricky

Just saying.

Other option: make 12 cards for Major Scale … changing the intervals / roots accordingly.

anywho… just a few thoughts

Still loving it.

So I thought of that a little. You can take any root on this card and put it on any root note. So with a little figuring you can tell where most of the notes are.
So if you are playing on the 7th fret you can move the card around and use whichever root is most convenient.

What I did when I was using it earlier with a song was to note what the notes were in the scale and that was enough to find the others not on the card. For me it’s a study tool not a cheat tool

But yes if I were going to make this a product that people pay for a card for each note would be awesome.

That is the whole point

Remember where you got the idea :stuck_out_tongue: LMAO!!
