The bottom of the slot is a screw where I already dremeled a rounded slit.
But I never considered friction, as I thought that a tight fit is best.

If the strings don’t slide freely through the nut, you’ll end up with a guitar that goes sharp over time.

Many, many nuts have grooves that are way too deep too. You shouldn’t have the complete string buried in the nut.

Yeah. You want to minimize filing the nut slots to what is absolutely necessary. Sanding the bottom is much better if all strings are high.
