"Share some good music" Friday

Ha. I bet I will. Even though my entourage will be all younger than me.

You guys all helped to bring this thread to 5000 entries!!

Not bad… not bad at all…

Of course, there was a fair share of “hit and miss” in here (uhm, no one mentioned, no one forgotten), and so, as a little treat, here is some tasteful jazz for y’all

Carol Kaye is featured heavily in the the “Wrecking Crew” documentary. Re-writes what you think you know about 60-70’s music! Carol and the rest of the crew were the actual band in the recording studio for an astounding 67 Top 10 hits from 1962-1975. Even more incredibly 31 of those were #1. songs in the US. Think the Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds?- nope, that was the Wrecking Crew with Wilson on vocals. Think Simon and Garfunkel played guitar on Bridge over Trouble Water ? Nope - that was the Crew. You’ll love this documentary. Here’s the trailer:

And the rhythm section called “The Swampers” from tiny Muscle Schoals, AL were the backing band for another 35 hit albums/songs from 1969-1979 including 12 #1 songs. Not the Rolling Stones playing on your recording of Brown Sugar. And The Silver Bullet Band is nowhere to be found on Bob Segar’s Night Moves and Old Time Rock & Roll - that’s the Swampers. And it’s four slightly redneck white dudes from a town of 14,000 people in Alabama backing Aretha Franklin on I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You).

I was lucky enough to see them in September of 2010 after they released this album in May. They opened for Kings of Leon, where are they now?

Liz Phair is still touring and still criminally underrated.
