I can’t agree more. I discovered post-rock as a genre about a year ago and it stuck with me. I gravitate towards vocal-less music. Not sure why. That would also be true for “Jam bands” (another term I learnt last Friday).
I have it mostly like that… until someone inevitably comes along who just about floors me with what they do with their voice:
@joergkutter. I just shared sent a picture of your post to Michael’s dad (Scott Mayo). He is a Yamaha artist, sax and everything horns for Sergio Mendes, my entry into the NAMM show every year, and a great husband to my cousin Jennifer (all of us here after her birthday dinner). He is super proud of Michael (every review, interview, show), and your post will make his day (when normal Californian’s wake up).
@joergkutter I’'ll also contribute one of “dad’s” videos for a Good Music Friday. He toured with EW&F, so a video with Verdine is always a good thing.
Oh, wow, that’s really cool! Michael is a huge talent - I only know his “Bones” album, but I like it a lot. It has unconventional harmonies, great vocal arrangements and even the melodies are often less than conventional. It is quite astounding how he navigates some of these intervals and modulations!
Great share, @booker_t ! And that’s a great horn “dad” is wielding here
So, you should be slated to sit in for Verdine soon!? At least for a family gig??
I can dream. Speaking of GREAT bassist (and over 2000 recordings), Nathan East is Michael’s Godfather.
Thanks for this list @howard. I have the day off today, so I’ll find some time to sit down and give these a good listen.
At 1100 I’ll also find the time to stand loosely to attention, bow my head and thank people like my grandfather who left the comfort of their homes to go and fight the Nazis in WW2. Thus enabling me to sit in my house in Western Canada, drink tea and play bass. We are the lucky few.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. ”
@Barney… I just learned to “quote” for this (hopefully, it works) . Beautiful. As a veteran, during peace time, I used to sit and wonder how others, like your Grandfather, could go -especially abroad- and “really serve.” A “Thank You” to THOSE Veterans.
Good man
Not enough people taking one measly minute out of their lives to pay respect to those who gave us all that we take for granted
I found this video ages ago when searching for Toto covers. It always makes me smile (especially the drummer using the grip that Neil Peart switched to halfway through his career). I have a few kids close to me in Cadets, and they really care about important events like Remembrance Day and always volunteer to help out.
Good for you, Barney happy veterans day to all the veterans, Thank you for your service!!!
Yeah you’re the one that turned me on to them
Very very good.
And every time I go to Pelagic’s channel it’s dangerous.
he he he he
yeah at some point there’s not much risk to ear something bad
