Tell me about those P basses on the wall please!

Sure!

This is the one that probably catches your eyes, It’s my first Steve Harris Mod, I did 3 total. This one is with Delano pickup and roasted maple neck. Swapped out the pickguard to the Vintera anodized aluminum pickguard. Delano Preamp Active/ Passive, Push/ Pull volume knob. TapeWound string.

The black one is the Music Man Cutlass Bass the MusicMan version of the P bass, arguably the best sounding P Bass I own.

Left, American Deluxe Precision Bass with Tony Franklin fretless neck ebony fingerboard, custom EMG preamp Prototype EMG PVX pickup, DIY double JVX pickup. Next to it is a Squier P bass with Les Claypool pickup and Gold anodized pickguard. Next is the MIM Fender with Les Claypool pickup and saddle less RayRoss bridge. Last one on the right I built it for a commercial shoot and I dunno may be a music video or something. I built a Strat to match that for an all girls band.

This was my second SH build, I went with gold,

If you want to start modding let me know and ask all the questions you want.

Tell me more about the audio room treatment you are doing to the shed

Seriously that’s a good idea, I have just been too lazy to do it plus explain to the wife why I want to.

Wow I never expected that reply. Thank you! The West Ham badge tipped me off but the pole pieces on the magnets confused me. I also just liked the look of the pink one. Those pots on matching the rest of the gold is the icing on the cake. I’m also intrigued about the claypool pickups. You must like them if you have them in multiple basses?

I’m a big EMG fanboi in general, if it’s not for the right looks, I’d put EMG on all my basses, :joy:

the large magnet pole pieces are the key for such an in your face tonality. The immediate attack is just too delicious.

The times I have thought about changing pups, EMG has always intrigued me because I wouldn’t need to learn how to solder.

I’ve always been a big fan of EMG as well. About twenty-five years ago I fell in love with this bass that had EMG pickups and preamp. I went can to the store there next week and it had sold. So I talked myself into the newer model with SD basslines pickups. I never really loved it as much. Then I had to warranty the neck because of a faulty truss rod and now I think the neck might be twisted. I’ll make a new post to seek advice on what’s actually wrong some time soon.

Well the solder less connection is convenient but it’s not a deal breaker for me. EMG is one of very few pickups companies that offer active pickups not passive either active preamps. Which means absolute silence.

More importantly, they use weaker magnets and utilize the active system to produce better clarity and promote better sustained than hot and strong passive pickups.

It took a while to choose the right shed as I know that the rectangle shape ceilings would be tough to control the bass trap when it’s going to be use as a bass room :joy:. I found one that fits and decided to add additional angle to the ceiling which helps disperse the wave even more.

I added the pads just to absorb some and the hanging bass turns out to be a natural defusers. Originally, I add the corner pads to combat the bass traps but I didn’t need it at all as the room got too dry, especially when I mic the amp. Took them out and it sounds great. I also put a 5.1 system in the room it’s my favorite room to watch movies and play game as the sounds is quite awesome.

When most of you think of Fullerton, you probably think of Fender or G&L.

I think of this:

or this:

And the ones that have the same association will know the link between them

I found the Adolescents through becoming a fan of NOFX and Propagandhi. Same with RKL. I still prefer NOFX and Propagandhi but damn if they don’t have some amazing songs.

Hey Al, what is your favorite P bass pickup? EMG or otherwise?

EMG would have to be the Original, although I just saw the Leland Sklar signature model, I’ll be ordering that soon. :joy: Active pickups are awesome.

I love the RipTide and the Les Claypool signature set but I must warn you it can be a pain to install because it doesn’t have your regular pickup tab but thin metal tap so you have to put tube or springs to cushion it but with the pickguard sometimes it’s a tight fit which makes the height adjustment difficult to impossible.

Non EMG, wow, Definitely the Delano because it produces very unique experience. People who own that set of pickup will tell you @joergkutter just got one with Delano.

If you like hot aggressive tone then Relentless pickup is very good, a la Billy Sheehan.

I own now three Mayones with Delano pickups - very beefy pups indeed!

I got DiMarzio Relentless Middle pups in one P bass already. I really like them. Now I have to decide on trying either EMG or Delano in a project bass I’ve got. Thanks!
