Maaaaaaaaaan - I will have a look at that!!!

You haven’t seen this?
The build quality of the Squier classic vibe series is definitely better than fender MIM and rival usa made during the pandemic era.

LaBella has a set of strings specifically for a mustang with a mustang bridge. So if you want flats that’s easy, or for rounds it will be medium scale/32" will be closest

i have never thought that body looks right as a short scale, the proportions seem really weird to me.

What I don’t like about the Squier CV 60s Mustang Bass SG is that is not P/J. I cannot give a real reason for that, but I kinda like the flexibility that P/J offers…

Yeah, but that’s only cause we are used to ā€œtraditionalā€ sizes. If the e-bass was invented as short scale, we would find the long scale … too long.
From a guitarist POV (which I’m not) a short scale makes much more sense…

Soon you’ll learn to appreciate the limitations of things. That’s one of the reasons why P bass is the most sought after in recording. I took a step further and only play most if not all my basses at center detent.

Really what’s the point of having multiple basses if you are going to dial them to sound the same, your ā€œsignature toneā€ :joy:

That’s easy to say when you own about 1000 basses (like you!?).
But If you own not to many basses (and are not allowed too by the ā€œpersonal dictatorā€ aka girlfriend) you need to carefully select basses that are specialised on the one hand (ie sofa/travel bass, low sounding bass, generic - short scale - bass) and generic (= flexible, ie use a Hipshot Bass Extender to ā€œsimulateā€ 5 string) on the other hand.

So, as it stands I need three basses. I have the heavily modified Tiny Blackstar Bass already, my ESP Ltd B-4E NS acts as a ā€œlowā€ bass (which is P/J) … that leaves me at the short scale…

I’ve bought a few kit guitars from Thomann, and I don’t quite know how they do it, but all the necks have been superb. They must just have the processes down to a tee due to the economy of their production scale. I’m currently in the process of making one of their Jazz Bass kits, and I’m keeping it mostly stock for now (except for new tuners). I’ve had good luck with the Tonerider pickups in guitars though, so may get replacement pickups at some point from there and redo the electronics then from scratch as well. Tonerider are in the UK but they deal with the customs charges for Europe at their end, and the pickups are very reasonably priced.

The Tonerider site is flagged by Malware Bytes as ā€œcompromisedā€ :frowning:

Weird! Working for me here in Ireland and my husband is a network engineer so our security is ludicrous…

I would ask him to recheck with Malwarebytes. I use Bitdefender and Malwarebytes as some of my work is security related…

Tonerider

no

either a selector switch like on a Gibson, or a 500k MN blend pot, depending on what you prefer. You could have a stacked pot for Volume and tone, and the blend pot, if you want to keep the clean 2-pots look.

For the record I have nowhere near 1000 bass. In fact I only have a few. (Honey! Don’t believe everything you read on the interwebz, I don’t have that many), :joy:

Try if you may you can’t make a hot hatch drives like an SUV, it’s best to drive it like a hot hatch. If you want a bass that do it all get a jazz bass and add P pickup and MM hybrid at the bridge. You’ll have one that covers all of the tone.

Better yet get one with 2 Simms super quad pickups and you have yourself a great day just as @John_E I love that setup.

Have you looked at the G&L Tribute short scale. The pickup they use on that bass is hot as a firecracker, has a selector switch and a great bridge. All for $369.00 give or take.

I read about it in a German Bonedo review. It looks good, but the Bonedo review of the Harley benton is almost as good - for a cheaper bass. So my reasoning is: if I look at the price difference and calculate the upgrades, I end up cheaper and better (???) than most ā€œas isā€ basses, including the G&L Tribute short scale.

Yeah, now that’s what I call" cool"! But this is really an escalation from ā€œcheapā€, all things considered.
Also I would need to mod the body with some serious wood work, if I understand it correctly. I am not capable of doing that, nor do i have the right tools.
Otherwise … yeah!

Harley Benton’s are great for the price, but G&L are way better.

No question whatsoever.

I will pitch in with another vote for DiMarzio pickups though! Love the punchy mids of ceramic pickups like those.

Absolutely :100:. MFD pickups is just so deliciously awesome. My only problem with the fallout is its size. It’s the longest production 30ā€ short scale bass I know, :joy:

Last year I could have driven down to G&L factory about 25 minutes away and picked up a USA fallout for almost half price because it was on blowout. That bass is the same size as my MusicMan stingray, lol.
