Should I shoot my new bass? (Modding the Harley Benton MV-4MSB)

Be British: take back control, girl

The ESP F-series (including the LTD version) is cool. You can get it with different necks and finishes though, it’s not always blacked out. I especially like the wood finish one because it looks like an evil tree

That will look very nice on Butt Stallion.

I would actually suggest just leaving it, though to be fair what ever wood HB used there is kind of light. But even if he blacks it out it will have those huge inlays.

My main bass is completely blacked out (incl back of the neck), except the fretboard, and it looks awesome with the wood as contrast; YMMV.

That is a very good looking bass I’d be happy to own.

I like to match my black with gold.

That’s awesome Al, it’s like a bass for Larry Graham’s evil twin.

Soon.

Worth the wait

It really is too light!
Just darkening is the least I need to do. Ronin would look like a cool version of your bass then

But pitch black is even cooler. Think “Blade” as a bass…

I’ll let that slide because for less than what you have spent on these you could have had the BB, and not need to change anything

The matte black on that BB is just beautiful.

Except the neck!
Remember, I need a short scale.
Surely, I would have considered Yamaha, but they just didn’t have the right size :frowning:

It’s true, Yamaha mostly does 34 and 32". Though you would likely be surprised by 32" - very playable, not a lot of reach needed.

Yeah, that’s what I have now on my pickguard. Very cool!!

Body is glossy on my bass. Glossy always looks cheap!

Not always. There’s some awesome gloss finishes.

Played a 32" in a store. Too large :frowning:
This bass is really a 100% ergonomic fit. And you know how long the selection took…

New crazy thought: making the bass lighter.

Something like this!?!?!

Going to far?

Obviously a bad plan, unless you plan to add a top cover like a maple cap. Chambered Gibsons (or my Revstar, which is also chambered) have a ~5mm thick piece of wood as the top cap, covering it all.

Plus it will mess with the balance and likely give you neck dive.

Finally, if you are like most people that buy and mod entry level instruments, you’ll be replacing these before too long and the amount of effort seems silly to add in on top of the more normal mods you are doing.

If you are just planning to drill the back and leave holes in it, you’ve just reduced the resale value to $0. I mean it’s low now (selling with the mods you won’t come close to recouping the cost of the pickups, much less the other mods; if lucky you might get close to the new price of the original bass alone, but very likely you won’t get that much).
