Sr TIs long enough for a Mustang strung through body?
@Wombat-metal - I read somewhere that flats and string-through is not a good idea, cause of the 90° angle that could damage the flats!?
I installed string-through-ready bridges on my basses, but did not bother to drill the holes for it, cause of that potential issue.
On zzzee Zzzerman forum they advise to drill 45° instead of 90° … because of the possible damaging of flats.
Could be because it’s short scale and the tension is less. But they make them and there’s no top load option on a Mustang style bridge
I installed the Gotoh 404BO bridge to have top load as well as string-through. It’s a great bridge, except for intonation … which really s#cks.
I have new strings installed top loaded, so for the time being I will not be drilling holes.
Top loaded is really very cool, especially when I want to travel and remove the neck for the voyage…
Stil interested in your experience when you get those flats for the Mustang. Though I am more interested in hearing your Offbeat bass with new strings
Yes TI jazz are generally lighter gauge than regular and not tapered you should make the length easily.
I’ve never thought about putting on mustang I bet you it would be so bitchen…
Would go on either the Squire with the Novak split pickups and the Tonestyler or Herbie with the Novak humbucker, not sure which would be better
Isn’t Herbie a P-bass?
Herbie was a P bass when I got her, she had a Nordstrand split pickup, but the Fender Pawn Shop Mustangs, which is what Herbie is, had a massive wide range humbucker from the factory. Someone took it out and put in the Nordy.
I got a Novak wide range humbucker and put it back to original - or better.
It looks like a P and has some P qualities, but it’s a humbucker.
The guy who designed the original designed the Gibson Mudbucker. Fender hired him
Oh, somehow I missed that mod. Looks really absolutely beautiful - shiny shiny!
I really envy you for all the nice niche products you have in the US of A, be it strings, pickups or basses.
To be fair I would fire the mudbucker guy too, I love humbuckers and yet hate the sound of that thing. Well, at least on EB’s.
A lot of that is the placement. Put it in the middle like a P and it sounds better. And get Curtis Novak to wind it, better still.

Yeah I am talking specifically about the original mudbucker primarily, and also its use on the EB second. To be clear I am sure the pickup you have and where it’s at sounds awesome.
The EB, especially the models with just the single mudbucker, to me do not. It’s a bass tone I really don’t like. Part of it is the pup, part of it is the placement.
Oops, I’m doing it again
The little dents around the gap are from the frets themselves. I will solve that by sanding and using darker glue.

Lord help us
Hahaha! Yes, it will be as much torture for you as it is for me!
Sharing is caring
Nice! What are you filling the gap with?
I will go the hard way (of course): veneer!
Not far away is a veneer shop. The owner is an ex punk bassist and he will think about a suitable wood. Very likely I will choose maple.
As the fretboard became quite dark from soaking it with lots of oil, I will go for a light veneer, so I can see the fret lines when playing.
Hopefully everything else will be as easy as before from now on - otherwise this thread will become very frustrating (again) for some BassBuzzers
