Should I shoot my new bass? (Modding the Harley Benton MV-4MSB)

That’s a great idea on the top tub. you can have the traditional jazz position. Heck you can even stack another 35TWX of top so you can enjoy all of the traditional position JPJ.

Ehm - I’m not going totally crazy here (though the thought crossed my mind, I admit).

I have three 35TWX here, but Ronin will get “only” two. The remaining 35TWX will go to Pink’s Hot, cause it will become a P/H (providing the bridge Humbucker sounds good … otherwise I will revisit the three Humbucker idea :-))

I asked for the larger neck/middle cavity, so I could experiment with different positions before committing to one. I hope that the first position (similar to the one of the Spector Bantam 4) will be great, so I don’t have to drill so many holes and don’t need to test more than three positions.

I like the idea of 3 humbuckers

Yeah especially when he likes the more warmer spectrum. plus the TW can be split into humbucker and single coil which will definitely produce some unique tones.

I’m sure we could fit five Humbuckers into that bass

But: NO! (Except when the P/H idea fails).

I think 3 humbuckers are better than a moving humbucker

Oh, sorry, I might have been unclear … my mistake!

I’m not planning to have a moving Humbucker (though I have thought about that too, but it’s too complicated).

I plan to not install a pickguard first and test several positions.
Then I will decide on one, based on best tone.
Only then I wil make a pickguard that fits that (and only that) position.

Yeah this could bring some cool switching options

Ohhh! Yeah baby, love some of that.

Lol! I’m not falling for that

This isn’t a joke we’re being serious

Me too!

I’d rather revisit that moving humbucker idea some day ^^

Just my opinion, which doesn’t mean much, but I think that moving humbucker idea is a bad idea.

Yeah. Just because it worked on the Gibson Grabber doesn’t mean it is a great idea in general for all instruments.

it’s a single coil on the Grabber, not a humbucker

and to be honest, I can’t say it doesn’t work as it really change the tone obviously, but it’s a bit of a gadget

Ahh thats right, wasn’t it a fakebucker?

no, just a big single coil

In fact I value your opinion a lot!

No worries, I am not seriously considering this., as I am already overwhelmed with all those push pull knobs.

But I do find the concept intriguing…

Just for fun:
