I use a short scale bass (Samick Corsair) and it is great for my first bass, but I’m looking at upgrading. I saw a band this weekend and the bassist was playing this bass. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks

Looks like a Fender Jazz.

You can get a Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jazz

Or a Classic Vibe 70s Precision bass

depending on the pickup setup you want. Both are iun the $400 range and Squier is a Fender label.

Or you can get a Geddy Lee Jazz by Fender for 1200

Or you can go for a Fender Ultra Jazz, which starts around $2200. Fender Jazz comes at all price points. This is for the block inlays on a maple fretboard. For dots and other fretboards there are other options. There’s a lot of Jazz models by Fender

Neck pickup looks like a humbucker so maybe not.

You’re right I didn’t pick up on that. Not sure what it is then; generally with a MusicMan/ Jazz pickup arrangement you see the MM on the bridge and the Jazz on the neck, here it’s reversed. Unusual arrangement

Here is my new P bass. An American Pro 2 by fender in Miami Blue (with obligatory Flamingo strap ). I am blown away by the fact that it is impossible to make a passive p bass sound bad. I still don’t want to like Fender, but they do what they do well. I also added the Sadowsky knobs because I didn’t like that the barrel knobs don’t have a marker for where they are at without moving them.

Got this bass a few months back as an upgrade from a cheap bass I got as a teenager

Yea, he makes great stuff. He has a YouTube channel where he shows the process of building everything, really cool if you’re into that. https://youtube.com/c/timsway
