Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

Gotta keep the wifey happy with the purchases, because who else is going to choose the strap?

Here’s my babies. (The anime girl sticker is covered in the important bits, I promise )

  1. Fender Precision Bass

  2. Sire Marcus Miller V5

I’ve had the Fender for a few years, and not much I can say about it that most of you already know. It’s a rock solid bass, and I love it. As much as I love the P-bass, I’ve also been wanting to add a Jazz bass to my collection for some time. Instead of going with another Fender, I decided to go with the Sire, and I do not regret it. The Sire is a wonderful bass, and I recommend it to anyone. Both are wonderful bass with their own personality. Oh, they have names to of course. The Fender is names ( P-chan ), and the Sire is named ( Roxy ).

I did that, but used EMB GB pick-ups. Great little bass, and great value, and a jazz bass size neck.

yeah, it plays pretty good, and sounds great with the new pickup, bothers me a bit how neck heavy it is though, need a good strap that does not slip on it, but I love it

Both look awesome! And welcome to the forum!

Here is my lovely bass! A 2001 Squier P-Bass picked up off of FB marketplace! I chose it out of all the others listed because I loved the Olympic white as soon as I saw it! I’m glad I did because I get a smile everytime I see it.

That’s funny. I had a jazz bass and really wanted a precision after. I got a sire p7.

Ha, well which ever order you get them in, I think every bass player should have them both. :slightly_smiling_face:

There aren’t too many gaps in the bass stable once you’ve got the p and j bass. I’ve heard people say once you get those you start coveting a stingray. They aren’t wrong but I’m very happy with what I have

Please let me know your thoughts on this one. I’m waffling between this exact model and an American Performer - both new.

Yes the Epi was that most recent purchase. It is really nice to play. I’ll be installing a Hipshot bridge and Hipshot ultra light tuners and some DR Legend Flats. I’ll see how that ship steers.

I haven’t held the American Performer in my hands, but I can say that the Moonlight Drive is simply a classic passive Precision bass with excellent build quality, a VERY comfortable and pleasant-to-the-touch neck, and powerful, hot pickups (I definitely prefer them over the stock Player II pickups). As far as I understand, the key difference with the Performer is the pickup configuration (PJ, right?), so in your case, I would focus solely on appearance and whether you need a bridge pickup.

Thanks. I’m working the list that @John_E outlined above. I’m probably beyond need at this point, but I am looking for a 2nd (really 4th) P/PJ so I can have 1 with flats and one with rounds. PJ is appealing since I would have more sonic options on stage, but I use a multi-effects pedal so it’s not a deal breaker either way.

I have 3 P/PJs, but I split them over 2 houses. Naturally, it seems like I should add at least one more for a nice round number, yeah?

Of the 3, my current favorite P type is the Squier Contemporary PJ with rounds. I also have an Affinity PJ with EMG Geezer Butlers currently strung with flats and a CV 60s with flats as well.

I like to record with the Contemporary as I can get quite a few different tones by fiddling with the knobs. I think I’m limiting the potential of the Affinity with the EMGs by running flats on it - I bet it would sound great with rounds. The CV is the CV - basic and I’ll keep flats on it.

So I can either get another CV and put flats on it while changing the Affinity to rounds OR I can look for a shiny new nicer model. Of course my first direction is to look for the shiny new nicer model which is why I’m looking at the moonlight drive Player II with SD pickups or the American Performer with Yosemite pickups and greasebucket circuitry. I can have my choice for only $100-ish difference.
