Show Us Your Basses (Part 1)

@howard

Ah, cool - now I can blame you as I’ve just ordered it!

This was my rationing -

I don’t own an active bass.
I don’t own a Yamaha bass.
I don’t own a modern bass.
And it’s in white.

Er, that was it.

I’m crumbling far too easy. I blame this place!!

Um, I actually do not have room. I need to work this out.

Here’s a little thread :slight_smile:

The 304 has a cute little feature I have never seen on other basses and I kind of miss. The pickups have a little curved thumbrest in them that is perfectly placed. As far as I know it’s unique to that bass.

@howard That’s really useful - thanks very much.

Oh, I like that curved thumbrest! Very good :slight_smile:

The real win is the neck. I love the neck feel of modern Yamaha (and Ibanez) basses.

That’s what I’m looking forward to the most I think. I have a relatively new ibanez and the neck is a strong point, even though the bass itself is entry level - it’s the comfort and playability that’s important.

(Plus it’s a new bass, but shhh :))

Anybody with a TRBX304!!!

@enkhiel is trying to work out some extraneous sounds he’s getting on this thread… Some muting advice (agree or disagree?) - #58 by enkhiel

If you have a TRBX304 and could take a look, I’m sure it will be appreciated.

Saw that, never saw anything like it. I would occasionally get some static or clicking kind of sound when I touched pickup poles, but nothing like what they are describing.

Courtney’s bass is a P/J:

Ah. Okay. I see what you mean.

The differences between having a P/J pickup configuration on a Precision Bass and having a Jazz Bass are pretty broad. The neck and body differences are enough to give each instrument a unique feel, and the two single coil pickups versus the P/J design is a different sound. :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:

Ayup – that was my reasoning behind getting a J. :smiley:

I too started on an entry level Ibanez GSR200. The neck was the selling point, it was the best feeling for a bass in that price range (that I was able to look at and play).
I got a RBX170 Yamaha for a sweet deal. I never tried one before when I got it.
I really love the neck on it, for different reasons then the Ibanez, but I really love the neck. IIRC, the neck . I was also able to do a set up with the lowest action out of all the basses I have set up. It is really nice in that aspect. The only problem with it (for me personally) is the neck pick up (split and angled), it makes makes it so uncomfortable to play for me, and I just can’t get used to it. I think the only way I could play it would be to raise the action much higher.
If it had those “304” pick ups, it would probably be a dream.

Back to Obanez. I recently upgraded to an SR, from the GSR, and the awesome neck from the GSR got more awesome on the SR, considerably more awesome. I love it, it is like 1.5mm (.059) thinner, and it’s a big difference to play. Plus it’s a 5pc neck.

I think the specs on the Yamahas across the board is very similar, to the same, as far as measurements go, bit I would have to look on the website to be sure of that, or wait for @howard to confirm or correct me.
I think they got it right, so kept the shape and measurements same thru the lines, just change materials and construction I think.

@T_dub

Nice one, cheers for the info. I’ll have a look on the website. I’ve been reading up on for a while. Should hopefully get it Tuesday, all being well with delivery here in the UK

@peterhuppertz Toooootally! I figured that would give me the best of both worlds but it is just that Jazz BODY that I can’t get over :heart_eyes: :grin:

I have a Jazz body. It is indeed to lust after, if I may say so myself. :laughing: :rofl: :innocent:

It’s on my wall.

I’ll let myself out now. :laughing:

I showed you guys my SR300 in the “introduce yourself thread”:

I just got this MIM Player Jaguar yesterday:

I couldn’t decide between the precision or jazz bass, so i went with the jag :slight_smile: I am loving it so far!

@peterhuppertz Beautiful!!!

I love the Tidepool color, I have a Jazz in that color. It looks so good with the maple neck. Consider putting a pearl pickguard on it, it looks amazing. Here is mine for an example.
