So you say new music sucks…

Tons, the problem is finding it, being exposed to it.
No old fashioned radio anymore, etc….you have to be lucky enough for a YouTube algorithm to send it to you.

I actually unwittingly saw Taylor Swift before she was anyone, she was the opener for Rascal Flatts and a pretty girl had free tickets and a free room at the casino and no one to go with, so i went. I have to say i was shocked at how good both were live then. I don’t care for either musically, but they did do a great job live and sounded great and put on a hell of a show, Taylor too.

Thus the fate of the overproduced, play to the masses machine that is the broken music industry.

The record industry wont produce anything that remotely resembles classic rock and roll anymore. The closest is, sadly, pop-country.

I live in a country that is heavily dominated by external cultures (mostly USA) and we didn’t appreciate what our country was outputting culturally. To the point that we didn’t give it a chance. It was considered tacky to even appreciate national music and most bands that wanted to be taken serious sang in english.

What you guys are talking about actually stirred some counter-culture since it made people shift their focus from what is being done there to what’s being done here. We’re going through an awesome renaissance of portuguese culture with a lot of good bands popping out everywhere and series being produced other than novelas (soap operas). Not quite so with movies, but we’ll get there eventually.

Ahaha. I hate bacalhau! I’m not a fan of fish and seafood in general

Unless we’re talking Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato, I don’t deserve my nationality.

I think there’s a lot of nostalgia for old time radio, but that was a dirty business, with all sorts of shenanigans trying to get an artist airplay.

Look at Lindsay Sterling, who couldn’t get a record deal so she made a YT channel, and found stardom.

As far as pop music sucks, it doesn’t have to, look at Billie Eilish. Most of the pop music I listen to is Japanese, not because I’m a weeb, cause I’m really not, but because they use more than 4 chords. And the female metal bands picked up the banner Slayer was carrying and are moving it forward and doing new things.

There’s a ton of interesting music out there, it’s just not Anglo.

It’s really kind of crazy how talented and hardcore Japanese metal bands are.

Ok…new rabbit hole here. Thanks man!

FLAC is the solution - except you have to start your digital music collection from scratch again. Ahoy, Maties!

If I want to listen to Zeppelin, I’ll listen to Zeppelin.

I do like Great Van Fleet though….

Well, there’s one issue with Led Zeppelin and … new music.

Agree, but again, you have to find her.
Of course there are exceptions like Billie and her brother.

And yes radio was a dirty business, but was a medium where we listened to things whether we wanted to or not vs. my 12,000 tunes on my phone over and over again. Now we have to actively seek out music vs. have it presented to us. I still love stumbling on a great song/artist and find many of them on YouTube, but have to actively seek.

I wasn’t bashing on Taylor her music/performance skills. Was just making an example with vocals and I just happen to prefer Joplin over hers. But on that subject I do feel that especially in the pop genre that looks matter more. That’s why I despise those TV shows where a jury judge singers also on looks.

Looks matter in all genres. KISS without the makeup? Slipknot without the masks?

Kerry King with those chains hanging from his belt, massive biceps with huge tats, bald head banging away. Presentation is a thing.

I think that the video on the OP was more a criticism on producers making vocals “too perfect” rather than today’s music sucks :man_shrugging:t4: Adam’s mom explains that listening to this “corrected” vocals is impacting new singers (but I don’t think that she said how) I wonder why they apply auto tune to every song, when many of artists out there can clearly sing, and we can agree the many loose some flavor by “fixing” them

PS All artists want to sell records and tickets, they just choose different target audiences, there’s no accident in how they dress, perform or the content of their music, it’s all calculated

Not ALL. Butch Walker makes money from writing pop rock songs for folks like Pink and every few years releases a niche artsy album that noone knows about except his small group of fans. They are wildly different in style and tone and def not intended to sell a ton of records
