SoCal BassBuzz meetups

Thanks to @MikeC for my first introduction.

It’s a treat to see you and your family today. Did your daughters know the kid next to you? He’s also in Shang Chi too he played Aquafina’s brother.

You’re more than welcome, my brother! I’m looking forward to the day we can get together.

We were talking about you and Austin today as the matter of fact, :joy:

They weren’t quite sure, and they were trying not to gawk, LOL. Now that I know it’s DL, I’m sure the lightbulbs will go off.

Just let me know when you are ready to open up the NC location, nevermind if Austin has dibs! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’d love to go anywhere with strong southern accent. :joy:

I don’t know Austin but NC has a NC accent. I don’t know that I’d call it a strong southern accent. I loved living there, especially as a newly single guy. I found the NC women’s accents… alluring.

My few months in NC were deeply weird but pretty kickass in lots of ways.

Interesting BBQ - really good but gotta side with Austin on that one.

Also I found some surprisingly fantastic Mexican food, even by California standards.

BBQ is religion here and sauce preference is divided geographically. Eastern style is no tomato and astonishing amounts of vinegar. It takes some getting used to. Western style embraces the tomato.

We have an amazingly good Indian food scene in my area as well!

Ironically the best American style BBQ in Tokyo is Eastern NC style.

Dude, don’t even.

As far as Mexican food goes, Texas holds the trophy for the best of Mexican food this side of there.

No intended dis on California, though. I love it.

As much as I love it too, TexMex and Cali Mexican are great for different reasons, especially for authentic traditional dishes.

And let’s not forget where the burrito was invented

California BBQ on the other hand, not even close, Texas by a long long way, as good as central valley beef is in CA.

Man. Now something like Birria de Res sounds amazing.

Texans don’t recognize “burritos” as legit Mexican food, whatever they may be.

After all, a taco is a taco is a taco, no matter how you wrap it.

That’s because they aren’t of course, but what they are is awesome when done right in a real taqueria. Especially al Pastor or carnitas burritos.

Mole Poblano also sounding real good. Dammit. There’s some good mexican here but it’s thin on the ground. Someone could make a killing moving here and opening a mexican place.

Preaching to the preacher.

I know me some burritos.

We imported them. Then perfected them.

Come back to Texas, just to be sure. One thing I can promise: a nap will figure prominently in your immediate future thereafter :joy:

Oh I bet. Definitely great choices where I have been in TX.

I’m a DEI when it comes to BBQ, Texas, NC, Memphis, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and especially Thai,

I’m an eastern NC pulled pork kind of guy, no offense to my birth state (Killeen). Living there made me a convert. One thing, there’s a reason why there’s no such thing as Colorado style BBQ. This whole state is a desert of good Q. If you aren’t doing it yourself, your options are chain places.

One of my brothers was born in Killeen, the other in Waco. I was born in Elk City, OK and moved to Copperas Cove when I was a month old. We lived in a house at the end of a dirt road and end of a telephone party line. No running water, and a one-holer out back. There was a huge cross up on the hill. The next house seemed like miles away. Now, there’s a strip mall where the house and church were, and WAY more than the 800 residents of C.C. that were there when I was ('51-'56). I don’t miss it.
