Spark Cab is Coming

Not good to hear :frowning: but thanks for the info.

Think I’ll wait for them to hit the shops and try one for myself.

I also have the Spark Cab and will return it!

  • It sounds good, albeit a little bass heavy (booming)
  • it has noticeable static hum noise, which is simply too loud and therefor unaccaptable. Positive Gris support says this is ā€œnormalā€ but I have never ever heard something like this - except with broken ceruits, mass problems etc.

It has great potential, but as it is now I advise NOT TO BUY IT!

I will send mine back because of the unacceptable hum issue and the very unprofessional handling of this issue by PG. Happy with the Mini and Go though.

A FRFR is the same as a normal PA system, in my opinion, so I have ordered the JBL EON 710 now as a) the digital amp should not have a noise issue and b) it has a built-in DSP/EQ (need that to get the optimum sound in my sofa-practicing setup in my living room :-))
OK, it is a ā€œlittleā€ more expensive but after the PG Cab disappointment I needed to make a ā€œfrustrationā€ purchase…

:100:, any PA or monitor (that doesn’t suck) will be flat response. and Full Range is just marketing fluff. In fact FRFR as a term in general is marketing BS really. Just get a PA.

Those JBLs will be great.

I don’t think that’ll help. Some kind of speaker would probably be better no?

Ok, got the EON 710 today.

It sounds GREAT! The Spark Cab is nothing compared to the EON 710.

Both could have stronger bass, but it’s good enough for ā€œsofa payingā€.
The difference is that the EON 710 has a total absence of any ground noise, it sounds crystal clear and not boomy at all. And I did not even use EQ (for now - room measurement with REQ would take too long for my impatient mind).

So I spent a little more than for the Spark Cab, but I got exactly what I needed.

Highly recommended!!!

PS though I would go for the 712 or 715 if I had a) the space for it and b) a girl friend that does not complain about shaky bass all the time :-))

Awesome! I knew it would, PA’s are great. Now just find an amp and cab sim you like and you will have basically an outstanding setup that sounds as good as far more expensive amp/cab combos.

Yeah, I have decided on something like a pair of Yamaha DBR12’s if I ever want or need to play live again. Which is highly unlikely

I am using TH-U, Amplitude and BIAS FX on PC. Otherwise I could run through my Spark Go or Spark Mini - which are in contrast to the Spark Cab - really not that bad for a little fumbling…

Nothing is unlikely

Nice, did you get a single or a pair?

I only bought one - for space reasons.
Also, stereo is not important for my purposes…

Still happy: played a lot today and yesterday. The backing tracks sound VERYclean (especially compared to the Spark Cab, where everything sounded washed out), my bass is clearly distinguishable and it has enough punch for practicing (and with bass-tamed EQ I can make my girl friend happy).

Sounds like you scored the trifecta :sunglasses:

Good to know. Can’t decide what sort of setup to do myself. Not in a hurry, but looking to cater for guitar, bass and backing tracks.

So I use a Motu M4 as USB Audiointerface. It’s a great fit, especially because of very low latency. Haven’t tested the 710 with my Spark Go and Spark Mini yet…

Pretty much the best of the consumer-tier interfaces, along with the SSL2/2+. Great choice.

How is this setup working for you. Thinking of replacing my Spark 40 with a multi effects pedal for bass with my Spark Cab. Wondering if the bass tones are better.

I returned it almost immediately, the hum was just too loud for me.

Right now, I still use the GT-1000CORE, attached to two studio monitors ( Yamaha NX-N500, basically the same as the HS5 with much more connection possibilities, stupidly expensive, but I got them at half the price used).

This setup works very well for me, although sometimes I would like to have a bit more oomph. That is why I am eyeing some of the PA speakers mentioned by @Whying_Dutchman and @howard

Right now, I bought a house instead, and with all the stuff about renovating and moving, I haven’t really played bass in something like 4 months.

The JBL EON710 is 100% noise and hum free and sound really great, especially when measured & adjusted with REW.
With amp sims you can make it sound like virtually any amp out there. No need for a specific bass amp - it’s nonsense!

I see you are from Germany: monitor Thomann for that speaker. As B-Stock I got it for a substantially lower price. It was as new.

PS Schick mir einfach ne PN, falls du Fragen hast!
