Stage fright help

It’ll be fine! Have a great gig and tell us how it went.

A few beers during the show can help you relax though and have a good time just like going out with friends. Not going to shoot heroin beforehand lol. We are not getting paid all that much playing small bars and need to take advantage of the free drinks! Luckily my wife comes to the shows normally and drives me home! If not I don’t drink. Tough for an Irish guy like me to go to the bar and not have any though. Lol

This exact think happened to us on Friday night … we should have been playing Just A Girl (No Doubt), but he started on I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll (Joan Jet). He was looking at us - the drummer and I - with a ‘why haven’t you started’ look. We were looking at him with a ‘W.T.F?’ look

I think this is just part of the experience. I’ve only played in front of others twice but I was so much more relaxed the second time than the first. You’re going to make mistakes, chances are no one notices if you move on and get back in the groove. Victor Wooten said something about there’s only 12 notes, 7 of them are right. If you hit one of the other 5, move on quickly and call it a passing note. Good luck!

You WILL make mistakes. Count on it. Accept it.

And then realize that it doesn’t matter. You’ll recover quickly and move on. That’s what it’s like to be a human and not a robot.

Oh, and your bandmates will also make mistakes. It’s okay. Really.

Exactly this.

My husband plays keys in at least five bands, lol. I shoot every one of his concerts.

At his last gig, he had a great moment with the guitarist. They’re both smiling and laughing. When I showed him the pics, he said it was because one of them made a mistake. They knew, but the audience sure didn’t.

They laughed and kept going, as one does.

(If there’s a way to post pics in this thread, I don’t see it. Here’s a link.)

No one knows the exact part but you. Any probably Geddy Lee, but he won’t be there. Relax, let your muscle memory take over. You’ve got this. The more time you spend worrying about the next note, the less time you have to trust yourself.

He said he’s playing in church, seemed appropriate. I withdraw the comment.
