Staying motivated as difficulty increases

Thanks for the post! I was just wondering if I might find a post from another beginner, such as myself, and find out how things are going for them. I am currently at Module 4, Lesson 2 and not all of the lessons have gone very smoothly. I am very appreciative of Josh’s sense of humor and always being “positive” and being “positive” is not one of my strong points.

Today I put on a CCR song - “Cross-Tie Walker” - and attempted to play along with it, just by using my ear and having no bass tabs to follow. What I thought would be a relatively simple song turned out to be practically impossible for me to play!

But I will stick with the course and see how things end up…

Stick with it and you’ll be amazed at how much better you play.

Playing is fun. Learning is work. Learning to play is both: a hell of a lot of work AND play.

Don’t stress. Just keep at it at your own pace. You’re going down a path that leads somewhere great.

Down on the corner
Out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin’
Bring a nickel, tap your feet

When the going gets tough, remember why you picked up the bass.

Nothing like some swamp music

Left a good job in the city,
Working for the man every night and day,
But I never lost one minute of sleepin,
Worrying about the way things might have been,

Big wheel keep on turning,
Proud Mary keep on burning
