Yeah, it doesn’t appeal very much to me. But it doesn’t have to. This is only my personal taste.
I agree 100%. This is the most important. I suppose, when he started his solo career, he was also having more (financial) freedom and could freely decide what he wants to do, without having to worry about the money.
Things I’m dealing with in my head, some of Sting’s lyrics seriously resonate with me. Especially “Message in a Bottle” and “King of Pain”. I could go on at length about what I read those songs as being about, and what they mean to me.
Most of Sting’s songs are deeply personal, and some are introspective as hell. Like any great artist, he draws heavily from his life experiences, past and present loves, and haunting self-doubts.
I posted this video a while back in the For the Love of Jazz thread, but it bears repeating here, I think.
Note how very moved Sting is to hear one of his most personal songs interpreted and performed especially for him by Gregory Porter. It’s obviously a multiple-whammy for him that affects him deeply, on many levels.
