Glad to hear it sir. Just sharing some personal experience and thanks for letting me know that every once in awhile I make sense to someone besides myself.
after I had been playing bass for 18 months or so I had a list of 30 or 40 songs I could play. I would go into my basement, hit shuffle, and play for an hour. It was a lot of fun. Now I learn a new song every week or two and promptly forget songs from the month before. I don’t play in a band, as much as I want to. I just make cover videos. So my purpose right now is
- learning how to learn a song
- make cover videos
- learn how to mix songs
- learn how to use the video editing software
I think this is a great skill, @Paul_9207. My two covers a week cadence drives the same thinking, how can I break the song down and learn it. I’m learning one at the moment where I got the basic structure worked out yesterday, and now I’m listening to / working through the changes as the song moves from verse to pre-chorus to chorus. Once I’ve got that worked out, I’ll listen for any fills etc. and decide if I’m going to try for a direct 1-2-1 of the bass line, or just add my own interpretation. It’s great fun doing it!
