The BEST Way to Learn Bass

This article and this thread inspired me a lot to pursue more seriously what I had in mind all along: playing with other people. So I answered another “bass wanted”-ad and asked my boyfriend, if he wanted to come to a jam session with me. He happily agreed and said, he’s gonna be my groupie then

A bassist with singing skills is a jewel in any band’s crown.
The only downside is that if you reveal your singing, the actual singer will be threatened, and you’ll have to do a sing-off to determine who is the true vocalist.

I won’t do a sing-off. I might just stick to background vocals, and if they still feel that way, it might be the wrong band for me :woman_shrugging:t3:

Suggest a dance off instead.

Suggest a bass-off. Loser has to be the singer.

Michael Cera is a for real bassist, right? I remember hearing that he toured with a band at one point.

Yeah. Not sure about Brandon Routh but walking in to a Bass Battle against a Rick with a Mustang is something only Superman would do so I guess it checks out.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I remember that McLovin from Superbad is bass player too.

Wish me luck: I just sent out an application to a band whose music I really like. They are looking for a female bassist and background singer

This is a great post and I think a lot of us struggle with self confidence when it comes to going from B2B → Practicing → Playing with others. I can attest to a lot of the comments here about social anxiety and not feeling you are good enough to play with others, especially when it comes to playing with musicians that have been playing for years.

On that note, I’m a walking advertisement for B2B and speak about Josh as if he was my music teacher and promote the program to anyone who I feel would benefit from it.

Thank you for sharing your stories, they have been inspirational! I hope one day, I too will get to that point in my bass journey of finding people to play with!
