The Role of Bass... (Let's Debate)

Apparently, the role of the bass (bassist) in my band is to sort our our rehearsals, pay for the studio time, then spend the next 10 days chasing the rest of the member’s financial contributions…

LOL…I’ve often wondered why the bassist ends up becoming the bands “producer” and the guy who has to deal with all of the money issues. I had that role for awhile and have no desire to ever have it again. I’m back to being a sideman only.

This reminds me of this one joke:

How many rock guitarists does it take to change a light bulb?

11 ( one to actually change it, and 10 more to say “I could have done it better”)

 :metal:

Maybe, it’s because our role is to provide the foundation for everyone else to shine! Professionally, my role is to support my client’s teams to shine and deliver on their strategic goals. Well, actually, my current role is to sell the company’s capability to do this… but the point remains, I build the foundations for performance. Maybe, that’s why I was attached to the bass :joy:

In my case maybe it was due to my profession in the financial services field. Since I was managing other peoples money maybe everyone figured I should manage the bands money as well. It’s also when I refused to book gigs with clubs who failed to pay the band when our gig was finished or wrote checks they refused to cash for me.

They’d hand me a check then when I asked to have them cash if for me it became oh we haven’t counted out the tills yet. OK, but all you have to do is just add the amount of the check to the cash you took in and it balances. Unless of course you don’t actually have the cash to cover your check which means you just wrote me a phony check. That illegal. Then they’d somehow find enough cash.
